He even brings up the purgatory theory, which was very popular go-to dumb fan theory that also can always get dismissed after thinking in 5 seconds. I think the Ed, Edd and Eddy purgatory theory, Pokemon coma theory and Hey Arnold mental illness caused by incest theories were some of the first really big ones that popularized this type of stuff. I remember reading those back in 2009-2011 when I was a kid and thinking how dumb they were already then. I bet there were people in the fanbase of Community who made similiar bullshit theories and this was Harmon and other writers just making fun of them. They had good insight into the fanbase, the Annie-Jeff love looks with the song Gravity was based on a fan ship-video with the same song and Harmon tagged the girl who made it the night the episode premiered. The #sixseasonsandamovie and Save Greendal Committee (based on #SavedGreendale campaign) were also a good example of the show engaging with its fanbase.

One thing I like about this in Paradigms there had been "clips" that took place in earlier episodes but weren't actually in them. Up until this clip none of the clips took place in earlier episodes, but here he decided to stuff them all in one skit.

I love how they mentioned real drugs used for cases such as that scenario. As someone who works in a hospital setting on a psych unit I was waiting for them to mention a little vitamin A (abilify)

There's enough computational power between all of their brains that even if it were a fantasy, you could see it as a "simulation"- I.E. a real "universe"- of its own.
