Today we get some lighting and heating in the greenhouse. We are installing heating and light fixtures.
Check out amzn.to/2iEIS5p Great greenhouse flourecent light fixture.
Im thinking of how to heat the greenhouse. Im thinking of running a tube from inside our house and reusing the heat from there.
Other heating methodes would be a geothermal heat pump or a climate battery.
When coming to lighting the greenhouse Im using
a fluorescent light fixture. I think its the best grow lights from me.

My greenhouse in Canada looked to be about the same size as yours; 8'x12' I tried several different heating systems, kerosine, heating cable and electric heater similar to the one you use in your video. Heating costs for the electrical was too high and the kerosine was also very expensive. These solutions were all used before solar became more available. SO my suggestion is to look at investing in a small solar system which could accommodate your needs for the greenhouse, then you could maybe install some sort of radiated heaters along the walls. This is what I would consider doing if I was still green housing

Hi Terrence, Thanks for commenting on the video. I got over 40 solar panels on my roof. Got a few videos on the here on the channel. Have an amazing Thursday!

I just watched your gardena smart watering video and I liked it. I guess extra lighting and heating is essential in Sweden. 😁

Thank you for watching. Yea, its important with light and heat. Will make a video about my sollution to that. Have an amazing Sunday!

For more efficiency and lower leaf coverage I use a tent of Mylar reflective emergency blankets ( space blanket 213cm x 135cm cut in half 213 x 67.5 ). This material can be hung from a 10 gauge wire frame 10cm wider than your raised bed with clothes pegs or 5cm x 5cm squares of packing tape. Bert

Great video. Lots of good ideas. We're thinking of expanding our little Homestead to include a larger garden and greenhouse. Days don't get so short here in Arizona, southern United States, but up in the mountains it gets quite cold in the winter. We would also need a good heat source. I like the way you have things set up and timed.

FargoFX Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. A greenhouse is awsome.

Looking good and I hope the extra heating and light help your peppers and other plants stay healthy and ripen. Will the warm air from the heater require extra moisture to offset any drying out? I did consider possible heating methods when you asked in your earlier video after your vacation but it isn't something I have experience with. That said I pondered that something that retains heat well and slowly releaes it might be best? Solar connected to ceramic heating plates perhaps, or maybe using black barrels, buckets or bottles of water heated by the sun during the day that will retain heat overnight? Given that you possibly have wood available from your homestead though, would a wood stove be the cheapest option - perhaps generating heat itself and maybe also heating water for generating warm steam?

Def a good fi till you get the heating system installed that you want. Keep up the good work.

The simplest and most inexpensive way is the same that generations before have been using...wood stove. If you don't have wood then the next best would be a propane heater.

+Dave Calvo I got wood but on the urban homestead there is very strict regulations so getting a permit there to heat a greenhouse with wood isn't easy. On the homestead in the woods i could probably do that.

A propane heater is horrible because it could hurt the plants but I do like the idea of wood stove so much easier

use 55 gallon drums painted black and filled with water, it will act as a solar heat sink, absorbing heat during the day, and releasing it after the sun goes down at night, It should help a little bit

I would line the north wall with them, where they will absorb the maximum sunlight during the day. It is an excellent way to stabilize temps in the greenhouse. Passive solar gain

I would line the north wall with the barrels to get maximum solar gain, it is an excellent way to stabilize temps in the greenhouse. Passive solar gain, but the best part, it is free. Aside from the initial cost of the barrels & some black paint, it cost nothing to operate, and you can build a bench on top of it to use as well.

The black barrels will reduce reflected light in the greenhouse and you cant put or grow anything in front of them as they need direct sun. I use the ground below the greenhouse to heat, cool and dehumidify the air. It provides the same capacity as 36x 200L barrels of water without affecting light levels or floor space.

Hej , Also in Sweden here (Dalsland) In the planing stages of building my own greenhouse. Built against a south facing garage wall .3m x7m . Some of the things I am thinking of incorporating are geotherm heat ( Running drainage pipes under the gravel, with forced air from the highest point in the green house . To heat the planting beds.) Painting the wall of the garage black . Using 25L black painted plastic water containers (dunkar) to build a shelving system next to the garage wall.

15 degrees is too cold for growing fruits. You should try it out around 20~25

+Felipe Navarro Thanks for the tip. During the day I still got over 20 degrees in the greenhouse and in night I now raised the temperature to 18 degrees. But it's soon time to shut down the greenhouse for this season.

IDK but for all that investment, I think you should test and try getting fresh food in the winter. IDK if the electricity is too expensive in Sweden but... Fresh food is always fresh food :)

Hi This is the LED fixture I am using and two of them have a little more usable spectrum than the four tube fluorescent and less than half the wattage. At $44 Can before taxes each.Niello ultra-thin & ultra-light LED Grow Light Panel 45W 225 LEDs 6-Band Full Spectrum Include UV IR for Indoor Plants Growing(Black)I can see why you bought the fixture you did at 75% off that is a good price. PS There is a foil covered bubble wrap insulation. If you use it on the East West and North walls it will reflect some heat and light back on the plants. I would start with the north side then add the east and west ; when the sun rises in the south east. Bert

Hi this is a good U-tube video on using a compost pile for heating a green house ' Winter Greenhouse Heating with HOT COMPOST ' In addition I would build the walls using ICF's ( insulated concrete forms ) filled with dirt instead of concrete thus reusable. them in a 'U' shape 3 rows high 4' 16" above ground then cover with a sheet of foam and a tarp with bricks or rocks to hold down the edges. Bert .
