Hi everyone! I'm here to share a secret I've discovered, something that perhaps we all have at home and often throw away without a second thought: kitchen sponges. I know, when they're worn out they seem to have no more value and end up straight in the trash. But have you ever wondered if there is a way to give them new life? Well, today I'm going to show you two amazing ways to do that, and I'm sure that after watching this video, you won't throw them away anymore, but you'll use them for something precious… your plants!
So get ready because the time has come to contribute, even with a small gesture, to saving the environment and our planet. Welcome to my Green Ital channel, where I share my garden growing adventures and so much more. I'm Claudio, a passionate farmer who not only cultivates, but is also deeply committed to environmental sustainability.
You are ready? Let's go! Today I'm going to tell you about two amazing ways to reuse used kitchen sponges, ways that are worth much more than you can imagine. Indeed, these sponges could become the precious treasure for your plants on the balcony or in the garden.
But before diving in, remember to thoroughly disinfect the sponges. Just fill a basin with hot water and add a few drops of bleach. Leave them in this solution for a few hours to make sure they are clean and safe to use.
Now, once the sponges have been disinfected, we can start cutting them. Use scissors to cut the sponges into small pieces. It doesn't matter how small they are, the important thing is to get a shredded texture, like this one.
And now, we come to the exciting part! Let's see how we can use these sponges for our beloved plants. You know, many plants suffer from sudden changes in humidity. For example, basil loves water, but too much moisture can cause it to wilt, while lack of water causes it to die. This is where our shredded sponges come into play! They can act as humidity regulators, absorbing excess water and gradually releasing it when needed, keeping plant roots in perfect health.
To use them, just join the sponges to the substrate, placing them in the lower part of the pot. Add some quality substrate, maybe whatever you like. Add more substrate and you're done.
Before moving on to the second method, I remind you of our weekly contest. You can win up to 3 bags of our earthworm humus by participating in our contest. Just write in the comments the first 3 numbers you think will come out in the next draw. And now, the second method!
This time we will use sponges to germinate the seeds. Cut the back of the sponge and place the seeds inside. For example, I always use basil as an example. After just 10 days, you will see the seeds germinate, ready to grow.
And with that, friends, I end the video. If you liked it, share it with your friends and keep making small gestures for a big change. I'm Claudio, and see you in the next fantastic videos. Happy mid-August everyone
