They could’ve had the career that Craig Mazin had potentially. He too got his start with shitty comedies, and now he’s doing prestige critically acclaimed HBO dramas. I feel like Freedberg and seltzer Got frustrated with their careers going nowhere, so they sold out and did what was easy and profitable.

The use of Japanese-dubbed Epic Movie footage really sells how bad their spoofs were; Not just because Live-Action Dubbing is wrong, but because not even foreign voice actors can make Seltzer and Friedberg's movies funny.

little thing about lonelygirl15, it was actually suppose to look real and be taken seriously. they staged a room and actress to act out in vlogs making it seem real, but before it could even gain a following people from something awful and 4chan and the like found out it was fake before it even started. after that the producers just rolled with it. it shows that, even back in the day, things can be easily be staged.

This was awesome Jake. Though I wish the duo would have at least tried harder to push their more original scripts than to just give up and make parody movies out of slight laziness and contempt. Though it always did seem like they were just having fun and didn’t care a whole lot which is fine. I just hate that they gave up on such big potential

Somewhat unrelated to the video but aside from Carmen Electra, looking back at these movies it feels like Friedberg/Seltzer seem to be projecting some... things they like into these movies. Casting a bunch of supermodels that aren't even actresses, making constant 'liquid/excrement on face' jokes, the weirdly grotesque and detailed fat jokes in Date Movie, and those upskirt jokes in 'Meet The Spartans'. At least in my opinion, it definitely doesn't feel like they're putting these in just for comedic effect.

The constant references to other films in these spoofs just made the storyline feel disjointed and unfocused. For all the faults of The Starving Games and Vampires suck, both of them at least kept the focus within their same settings. The same cannot be said for Disaster movie and Epic movie.. Its a shame because they got some real talent in these films, Kal Penn and Fred Willard are genuinely talented comedians, the writing was just horrendous. I will admit though the 'We are the Pirates' music video in Epic movie, will dumb did me make me smile.

Honestly, I feel sorry for these two, they were very passionate about their work, but the spoofs never got out, & the good scripts were never made. Atleast spoof is still doing good on tv & online!

I'm really thankful you replied to my comment on that Scribbles to Screen video a while back, because without it I never would have found this. This was a really well made mini-doc, and you uncovered some really interesting info that not a lot of people talk about. Honestly after watching this, I have a sort of newfound respect for Friedberg and Seltzer. Sure they were utterly despised back in the day, but they clearly had passion and talent that just either wasn't able to be fully realized, or just didn't go into the right places. It'd be really interesting to see how tonally removed their Liberace script is from their infamous spoof films, and it's a real shame the world never got to fully see what they had to offer in the way of works that weren't low-brow pop culture spoofs. Great video overall; I look forward to seeing more short documentaries from you in the future!

And i gonna tell you guys that Aaron and Jason heard everything the internet said about them. This guys´ ego is beyond the imaginable. Aaron also tell me that they are developing a spoof trilogy about the Star Wars Trilogy. One script is written, the second one is not finish and the third one it´s the one who they don´t write yet. This was though commented in 2020 so it is not really a recent update.
