I was born and raised in greenville. Sadly, greenville has a very dark background and at one point was the worlds largest producer of cotton in the world. Hence, the annual cotton jubilee, festival. To this day there is still a very real presence of the klan, the aryan brotherhood of texas and the scorpions motorcycle gang. Though greenville can be a great place to be, it is still a very "two sides of the tracks" city. If you dont believe me..take a trip. Cross the railroad tracks and see for yourself what lies on both sides, in terms of housing.

Thank you for sharing! What else would be valuable for folks to know?
@codyspradling48216 ай бұрын
I have lived nearly the entirety of my 30 years of life in Hunt county with the majority of it in Greenville and have yet to see said "presence of the klan". Now that's not to say there isn't racist people in Greenville, but to say "there is still a very real presence of the klan" is a ridiculous claim, or you're wearing special shades that help see these klansmen hiding in plain sight.
@codyspradling48216 ай бұрын
I've also only ever known the lower quality of life side of the tracks and the fact that I'm half breed you would think the klan would have came for me already but here I am still waiting.

I've been in Greenville Texas for 23 years and it's really gone downhill in everything from affordability to jobs. A lot of it has to do with wealthy people and companies coming here building ugly housing units buying up all the apartments from the private owners and generally trying to make this a Rockwall 2.0. Wesley street is not designed to handle the traffic it currently gets. Do us all a favor and move somewhere else. No offense.

You read it right! In fact most people from the area know the whole slogan. “The blackest land, the whitest people, if you caught here after dark, you better run ni**er run!”
@dianerivera3222 Жыл бұрын
The sign doesn't mean what some people think it does. I was born in Greenville and lived there when I was a small child. I still have family there. The black refers to the soil which is very rich and dark. The white refers to the goodness of the people. It was taken down years ago. I wish the Audie Murphy Cotton museum, which has possession of the sign would put it on display with the story behind it.
@jeffhall7687 ай бұрын
The soil is black, it's not rich though. You can interpret the whitest people part however you want. People from that time use to say "mighty white of you" when saying someone did something good. There are also plenty of old racist whites in the area too. We all laughed at it as kids, regardless of skin color. I went to Caddo.

It’s not great. I lived there from 1989-1991, 92-97 stationed in California while in the military. Moved back, worked at L3 for 13 years. I watched the nice little town try to become bigger than it should. With high property taxes, and to much growth. It’s no longer a small town. It’s trying to hard to be Rockwall. I have friends that live there. Forget highway 34 south, bad wrecks every day because people driving to fast on a two lane road and not paying attention. The entire state of Texas is screwing itself with way too much growth. I don’t k ow who designs the roads in Texas but they need to have a clue. Road construction all over dfw is an after thought. Stop wasting tax dollars on roads. It’s a constant no win situation, live near work or deal with to much traffic. And if prices for land and houses have gone full on stupid like north west Fort Worth and Wise county, it’s just way over priced. I go back to see friends once in while and can’t wait to leave when I’m there. And sulphur springs and and farther east out Interstate 30 is no better. You can call it progress all you want, I call it ruining good countryside.

I live right in the middle of Greenville and Royse City in the City of Caddo Mills. It is a growing city of just over 2k in population but the city council recently released a 2040 report where they predict that population will grow to around 16k in the next decade to 15 years. There are major plans for urbanization that will bring more the community.

Greenville, in my opinion, has gone downhill. Instead of aging gracefully, it has eroded away, leaving unsightly debris in its wake. I mean come on, Holsum Circle used to be the Highlight for citizens during Christmas, now people have washers, dryers and tractors in their front yards. The YMCA, WOW it's gone right? I blame this on the City Manager. It's depressing to go there, and I grew up there. Absolutely haunting and depressing. Back to the North East of the U.S. they preserve all the smaller older cities. Glad I don't have to go back for anything or anyone. Except, CB'S
