I like bare bottom because it is far easier to maintain. However, I love the natural look. One option is to paint the bottom of the tank to represent substrate and then use rocks and drift wood to cover as much of the bottom as possible. You can attach plants to the rocks and drift wood and have a planted aquarium without substrate. Besides being cleaner you can easily remove the plants at any tie for any reason because they do not have a root system embedded in the substrate.

planted ! ^^ I don't mind the extra work to keep it clean. My goldfish like to play in between the plants and with the gravel. I love to see that when I sit on the cou ch :)

I totally agree with you. I was criticized for keeping my angelfish in a tank with no substrate but I see my fish is much happier and more active in a bare bottom tank. That is probably because any decoration and substrate actually lower the rate of filtration and air circulation and basically they take the space that the fish could use to move around in a healthy environment. Besides, as you said, decorations can be a hazard to the fish and also some pebbles and substrates have toxic materials. I am extremely conscious of the safety of my fish. My fish matter to me more than the praise of people who know nothing about fish keeping. And I keep my fish in a bare bottom tank. I can change the water more frequently, and scrub the tank and keep it clean. So happy and very grateful for this video. Thank you!

I like a little bit of plantings in the tank. I like the substrate at the bottom. It's a little bit harder to clean, but it also helps to maintain the tank, in that there is a lot of the biological filter in the substrate. pros and cons with this.

Would a bare bottom tank work for a betta in a 5 gallon tank? Thank you,

What do you think about sponge filters? I just got one and it is going great. It actually does a good job at mechanical filtration. After reading reviews, I didn't expect much from the mechanical side, but it wow me. Planning on getting more. Always been a HOB and canister guy.
@GreenwaterFish7 жыл бұрын
yeah it is definitely not bad! I love it for breeding purposes but i probably would still go with canister or HOB for display tanks :)
@chaory20167 жыл бұрын
Greenwater Fish True, it doesn't mechanical filter as good as an HOB or canister.

My Goldfish tank has a sand substrate since as per several fish channel here in YT it's much preferable since it mimics there natural habitat and they can sift the sands, I just added a potted plant in it so that they can't uproot the plants from the substrate. I also put a hanging diy bottle plant to hold inside the duckweeds since they will eat them if I just free float the floaters.

I've a bare bottom tank. Would love to hear from you in future especially if touch on the filtering, air bubbling, waste inside etc.......
@nelson4662 жыл бұрын
barebottom is the easiest and cleanest way to maintain a fish tank if you have a strong filtration system.you put any sand into your tank only leaves you dirt and a lot of troubles need you to clean up very often. If you don't then your fish would easily get sick and die But if you do not put any sand then all the aquariums will lose a lot of money can earn. That is why the aquarium will not tell you the truth. People don't like to use barebottom it's because they think it's ugly and looks unnatural but don't forget one thing that is your fish tanks filtration system no matter how strong it is still can never compare with nature river water

Hi I have 7 large goldfish in a bare bottom tank, they munch on every plant I can think of, java fern, hornwort, anubia, oledea densa, also with one cylindrical shape filter, any advice? Thanks.

how often do you feed baby goldfish fry with decapsulated brine shrimp eggs? and how often do you waterchange the tank for them?
@GreenwaterFish7 жыл бұрын
It depends on how many fry you have and how big is your tank. I personally try to feed them 3-4 times a day and start doing almost daily water changes after about 5 days after they start free swimming.

I like your channel. I hate substrate in my tanks, its too much work to keep the water clean. I love aquarium hobby. Plants in pots with gravel is great. Your fish take gravel out of your pots, just put a piece of plastic screening (think plastic pot scrubbers) over the gravel and it doesn't have to be too perfect to work well. Bare bottom is especially good for discus and reef tanks. I would never do a reef with substrate! And yes the beautiful goldfish are not clean fish I think because of the slime that comes off their bodies so bare bottom for them is great in my opinion. Peace everyone!

Bare bottom for me in my goldfish tanks! I float live banana plants for them to play around with. My goldfish LOVE to rest in my fake "log cave decorations" that I add to my bare bottom tanks. You really should try it, your fish will rest better!

It must be so boring for them to swim around and not be able to mess around in sand, it’s their natural behavior. That’s the reason I have sand, it activates them.
