The Brawley case takes up a fair proportion of this film. Sharpton addresses it directly. You may not be 100% satisfied, but the film definitely doesn't avoid it.

That was like 20% at least of the film. that was before my time but from the film alone tawny brawley comes of like the jesse smolliet of time. Sharpton is a charlatan in my opinion, but a necessary one thanks to racist white America.

Al Sharpton was a FBI informant in 1983 and even snitched on Black Panthers like Assata Shakur. I wonder if that part will be in this documentary…

You going to include the fact that it was on Black Panther's who were violent or are you going to conveinently leave that out? I am no fan of Al Sharpton but I certainly wouldn't want a violent militia distorting the message about black empowerment and civil rights.
@theREALChadsexinton

Are you a pacifist? Are you against all forms of violence? What about the minutemen in Lexington and Concord? John Brown? Storming of the Bastille? Fighting Nazis? Stonewall Riots? Lincoln using scorched earth tactics to defeat that South? Nelson Mandela forming the militant wing of the African National Congress? It was the Chicago police that killed Fred Hampton in his sleep. It was the Philadelphia police that dropped a bomb on black families (google "1985 MOVE bombing"). It was the police that framed Huey Newton. So are you also going to "conveniently leave out" *why* the Black Panthers may have been violent?

This is an incredible documentary. I saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival. If you think you know about Sharpton, you don't know his whole story. I grew up hearing the basic criticisms of him, but this film made me aware of how that narrative was shaped in the media. All the naysayers, go ahead and stick to your narrative--nothing likely will change your views---but for those interested in learning how Sharpton's role in history is made more clear, step right up.

Al Sharpton's suits have gotten fancier and more expensive since my childhood and I am 45. Not a single significant improvement has occurred anywhere he petitions issues in occurrence, and I have now repeatedly seen black Americans in these communities cuss him out and chase him away. *He is rich AF and nothing has improved because it's bad for Al's bank account.* *Improvements are measurable and so are failures but if nobody measures your improvements and your career is based on pointing out others' failures, your career is really just pointing fingers, empty promises and moving onto the next city, fund raiser, party etc.* Then when nothing gets better, as usual, you just blame the people "you" left in charge.

Barack Obama {mandated police body cameras) and that is it.
@JonDeth
@JonDeth 11 ай бұрын
@@justanotherguy469 the demand was rather intense when that occurred and had been building for years. I'm not sure if you're trying to name things that went right while he was in office or that it's meager and inappropriate compared to the job, and the latter is the accurate. I am 45 and we had been demanding bodycams for many years, but it's not even a major win nor was it the job of the president. *This should have occurred under the state governers.* Mandating them means little when the process to access them is a huge PITA. *An appropriate federal mandate is a state governor makes them required and the federal government steps in to make them accessible without a troubling process.* *Those recordings belong to that police department. They are required to send copies of all dash and bodycam footage to the state capital. If you want to access them, you must file a motion for discovery with the state capital.* I don't recall what office off-hand, but it's easy to find out and irrelevant to the point. If these recordings were easily accessed and in fool public view, crime would nearly vanish! Black crime, white crime, Hispanic, Asian, and so on. *Cops will never be disingenuous and corrupt so easily, and many would either never get the job or last in the job very long.* Armies of people would rise up to watch the things for public safety. *Their corruption is so great with the trickery of their deceptions, we would control the government by becoming the government and they the public servants.* Instead of governing themselves, we would be governing them and they obeying us. *Barack Obama was a husk full of lies just like Joe Biden.*
