@@Mylada Yeah I don't think it's a particularly useful indicator of strength. Armwrestlers will work all sorts of hand strength but their ability to close a heavy gripper isn't super important, powerlifters/weightlifters only really need to concern themselves with holding onto a bar etc. Much like the grippers I think it's interesting to see who's strongest but ultimately not all that important.

Really would be helpful to have some sort of force associated with that number. Pounds? Kg? Arm wrestlers use grip strength measurements and they get pretty high numbers.
@rdbm-uo5zt
@rdbm-uo5zt Жыл бұрын
When using grippers be sure to keep them up-to-date by regular calibration. I bought a Handexer gripper a few months ago and found out that 45 lbs. of force registered 35 lbs. on it; therefore, I simply multiply any number I get on it by 45/35 = 1.28. My best squeeze was 112 lbs. which translates to 143 lbs. To calibrate this spring gripper, I stuck a piece of rope through a 45 lb. plate with the rope over the gripper handle. Then I lifted the weight up so that the rope was taught, but not yet lifting the weight completely free from the table top. I positioned the rope directly on the center of the handle pad and began to pull very carefully and extremely slowly so as not to jerk the scale down too much. The weight should leave the table almost unnoticeably. This is similar to the method used to calibrate Jamars where you very softly place a weight on the hydraulic cylinders during calibration. The gripper Greg's using looks of similar quality to mine; however, his results with people he's tested seem realistic, and physical education students are taught to regularly calibrate their testing equipment. Over forty years ago, I took a fitness test at the Queen's University Fitness Centre (at Kingston, ON) where, among other things, my grip was tested using a Jamar Hydraulic (one of the most expensive ones): my results were bad for a 27 year old man: 90 lbs. (left) and 100 lbs. (right). The young grad student who conducted the testing shook her head slowly as she wrote down my grip results while facing away from me. She looked like a runway model (6' 2" and around 160 lbs.) with large hands that could squeeze more than mine. While squeezing the grips, she insisted that I hold them with an outstretched upper arm parallel to the floor (a right hand cycling signal position) which really reduced my power, but I disobeyed and did what you guys did. I got away with it. Dr. Andrew (the man in charge) told me that crushing grip strength doesn't always translate to strength in general (at the time I could bench close to 300 lbs., squat nearly 400 lbs., and hold onto a 440 lbs. deadlift with a reverse grip (over 500 lbs. with straps)).

@@wss33 nope, it's not different. Many armwrestlers tested their grip on the same tool and all of them were around 80 to 100 kg mark although they are all world champions. Very few crossed 100, but that Vitaly dude is just different, very long fingers so he has leverage advantage too for this test.

@@zeeshantaj3457 So all of them world champions got 100kg and he got 155kg? And here we have the worlds strongest man who got 84kg. Yet that dude got 155kg? Cap.
