Imagine Greg Howe making analyses and tutorials of his own tunes like Pepper Shake, Tilt or Jump Start... I mean, not only is he the gifted, talented musician we know, but he's so clear and accurate when he takes the time to explain things. His 1989 Hot Rock Licks video was SOOOOOOOO cool.

Glad to see you're doing well Greg. I took a clinic from you back when you released "Ascend". We hung out a bit after the clinic. I'd love to see you come back to Charleston s.c. for another clinic. I think I've about used up all the info in the "polyrhythm" exercise tabs you gave me. 😂🤣😂. At any rate glad to see you're still doing well my friend.

Greg! Where have "I" been? I lost track of you back in the 90s (for a myriad of reasons) but always remembered the vinyl insert from Guitar Player Magazine of you that was amazing (which I lost, and could never find some 30 years later, and I have a stack of them which I have now converted to digital). Then one of your tunes popped up on iTunes a couple of weeks ago and I rediscovered you all over again. Now you have a catalogue of awesome tunes (I'm sure) that will be all new to me that I will marvel at. Do you happen to remember what the name of that tune was that was on the Guitar Player insert? Best!

I use the classic funky chord to warmup: you know sliding a Dom9 chord using strings 5, 4, 3 and 2. And then some pentatonic noodling. Another favourites are hammer/pulls on a open string (ala thunderstruck), picking on the same string and some pull offs (ala Highway Star, Stratovarius) and some sweep picking arpegios (usually tetrads). The thing is you don't wanna overdo it, specially if you are doing fussions or shred: your fingertips have a fatigue meter, and you don't wanna wore them down to quickly. In my case I find I can play at my best for an hour or so (tops). Then my fingertips begin to feel sore and it's no longer a pleasure (think of football/soccer players playing overtime).

Remember Greg gave me this one during my private lessons and I was like ... "seems easy enough". But it is quite tricky. Once he saw me master that one he added extra notes to make it a little longer and longer till my head exploded ... good times !

Right hand development seems to be ignored most players need work on picking technique Both hands important but many players have not developed their picking hand
