Andy, you pick up new video games easily. The same thinking will apply to board games. Sitting down and reading the rules for an hour does not help many people, starting the game (with someone who knows the game) is a much better way to learn.

I'm much younger than Greg and I'm pretty sure I also read Hatchet in 4th/5th grade. We also read Fever 1793. Not sure that I agree that kids that age shouldn't be reading those books. I mean at that point I had already read Goblet of Fire and Order of Phoenix which were relatively advanced as well. Yeah it's "mature" but kids are way more mature and capable than you think...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think evolution quite works the way they seem to think it does. Me using a phone all day and, say, permanently deforming my finger doesn't mean my child will have a deformed finger. This would only happen if, say, a few people are born with a deformed finger that somehow allows them to be more fit for survival than those with regular fingers, and long story short they pass this gene on until all or many are consistently born with that type of finger. We can use phones all we want and deform our necks or fingers all we want. This doesn't change our dna in any way.

(Psst! Hey, Greg Miller -- I know that I can't relate to your exciting adventures in oncology, but I did survive VACTERL syndrome, had over thirty two major surgeries on vital organ systems when I was still a child, and am now thirty five years old, and have been a high risk immunosuppressed renal transplant patient for sixteen years. Which might not be directly relevant to the point of this podcast that I've only watched ten minutes of. I just didn't want you to think that the above comment was made by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to that. I am SO proud that your experiences didn't dim your light, stifle your warmth, or dampen your fire... like mine almost have.)

Monopoly is one of the worst designed board games. It baffles me to this day that this game practically ruined board games for a lot of people (also because of its history as being a rip-off from another game named The Landlord‘s game). At some point in the last few years, I have discovered cooperative board games and have made some of the most intense gaming experiences of my life, even surpassing The Last of Us kind-of games: just have a look at Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 (and continue with 2 and 0). It‘s been such an experience that I put up the final board up on my wall in my living room.

This convo on seafood is disheartening! I absolutely love seafood in all its forms. Its rare for me to find a type of seafood I dislike. Growing up I have always loved it even though it’s often prohibitively expensive. I found out that when my mom was pregnant with me everyday for lunch she would eat seafood at Red Lobster! It wasn’t until that revelation that I realized how influential a pregnant moms eating habits are on the unborn child. When pregnant with my older sister all she ate was fruit and that was my sister’s go to food all the way up until her passing. My mom was also constipated with my sister so I used to joke that my sister was full of shit from birth! Lol
