Greg Norman says it’s strange he and Tiger Woods don’t talk, even though they live close to each other on Jupiter Island, Florida, and puts the ball in Tiger’s court.

The real rift was years ago when Tiger was still an amateur playing in U.S. Amateur and Norman was playing in the PGA Championship the same week. Both were working with Butch Harmon at the time. Butch Harmon made a logical decision, "Do I go to the PGA and work with Norman who is at the end of his career or go to the U.S. Am and grab this kid phenom. Where is my future?" . Quite the "snub" to Norman!

greg has the protocol all wrong. when you're the elder statesmen and someone new moves in, you're supposed to make _them_ feel welcome, not the other way around. just like in the workplace, a new employee is welcomed by those already there.

Agree with you 100%. And Norman forgets that he wasn't that welcoming to Tiger when Tiger 1st hit the Tour. Plus when Tiger was having his personal and physical issues, Norman was very outspoken about it. Criticizing Tiger and not supporting him in any way. Heck just a few years ago, he was quoted saying Tiger is done and will NEVER win again. Tiger never forgets. Actually Greg you can probably learn something from the Goat. Just look and see how the younger players act and feel around Tiger. He's welcoming, he's approachable. Tiger will aid and help these players with anything they want to know about the game. Tiger wasn't always that way, but he's become more open and inviting. Tour guys love Tiger.

Saw Woods at a tournament many years ago in Atlanta. He looked straight ahead, never made eye contact with anyone or acknowledged the fans in any way, shape, or form. He's a dick. He may have all the talent in the world but it seems he never really realized that golf is a game for gentlemen, and one of his responsibilities is to represent the best traditions of the game, not just winning at all costs.
@PK1982_
@PK1982_ 3 жыл бұрын
@peter barlow you can also toss in Woods' immature behavior on and off the course, including using foul language on the course and his brushes with the law.. Jack Nicklaus, on the other hand, was a perfect gentleman at all times and represented the game admirably. Jack was a tough guy and a fierce competitor but he knew the importance of representing the best traditions of the game.
@PK1982_
@PK1982_ 3 жыл бұрын
@peter barlow I may be biased because Jack Nicklaus is a hero of mine, but I think Jack is the greatest sportsman of my generation. Jack was a championship player in college, then went on to be the greatest Championship golfer of all time. He was always a class act, was polite and respectful to his fans, and never embarrassed himself. When he first got married years ago, he made a promise to his wife that he would never stay away from home for extended periods of time. He was a family man first and foremost and nothing would ever change that.
@PK1982_
@PK1982_ 3 жыл бұрын
@peter barlow Nicholas is not only better person but was a better ball striker and one of the absolute best at course management, along with Ben Hogan. Woods was a longer driver of the ball and was probably a better putter than Nicklaus, but Jack had better control and was the better golfer from tee to green. Talent is talent, and I see no reason why Jack Nicklaus could not have excelled today the same way he did years ago. At the very best, these intergenerational comparisons are very tricky and I don't typically engage in this type of conjecture.
@PK1982_
@PK1982_ 3 жыл бұрын
@peter barlow I see no reason why Jack Nicklaus could not achieve the same level of success regardless of his generation. These types of discussions often evolve into a pissing contest, just like this one. I expressed my opinion and for whatever reason you seem determined to continue engaging with me, digging up anything that you consider to be a salient point that de-legitimizes my opinion.

Tiger probably didn't think he needed to take advice from golf's biggest choker. Watched him at British Seniors a few years ago and whilst he was ok when the cameras were on him, he wouldn't sign autographs after the round and was generally offhand with people. Conversely, Craig Stadler, who has a fiery on-course reputation, was an absolute gentleman after his round, taking time to speak to spectators and autograph anything that people could find to write on.

Norman won 17 tour events and 2 majors. Yeah, he blew a few tournaments but people who are near the top have more opportunities to do that. I met Tiger and Greg Norman at different tourneys and I will say Greg was the nicest. He signed my hat and one for my son. Tiger seemed standoffish and refused to sign anything for anyone which was strange. The two players that were the best of all time were Nicklaus and Palmer. I worked a Pro-Am (for free for my hotel boss) and they both showed up early and thanked all the volunteers for helping out and happily signed things for any of us that asked for it. I have both a Palmer book and Nicklaus book signed and they were both super nice. Once the tournament began, they were great for the entire day. In hindsight, even though, I didn't get paid it was a great day of work.

@@robward155 of course, look at how the terms "white privilege" and "white supremacy" have been shoved down non whites throats over the last couple of years. Innocent whites have been and will be held accountable for the actions of a bad white cop, so don't pretend things in society haven't changed radically in recent times. I have never heard of Norman being labeled a racist in the past but because he simply voiced support for Trump will be grounds for a lot of people now to assume he is because that is what BLM and the msm have decided everyone should believe, you know "cancel culture" and everything that goes with it has shut a lot of people up. Only a few brave celebrities have expressed their true feelings and haven't bowed down to this cult of racial divisiveness.
