Very fair assessment. Rutgers is a tough job but Schiano makes a tough team... if the players cooperate. That's why he needs certain kind of players and why, I think, both Tampa Bay and OSU co-DC was hard on him. Everyone is a star in those places and are treated like stars their whole football lives... very few want to play assignment football on defense and then they all support each others demands for star treatment. But Schiano knows how to get his players to the NFL despite not starting with 5-star talent. And NFL coaches love them because they all know how to listen and work hard. Rutgers is an easy team to root for as perennial underdogs who take "student-athlete" seriously.

Yes I agree he’s the only person. If he can’t do it no one can, he has the longest leash and has endless time. No one is going to fire him. The hardest continuous schedule being in the big ten east

Like all good things it takes time and Shiano is building a good foundation first. Once this is done everything will start falling into place. Just have to have patience.

I loved hearing how the new OC wants Wimsatt for be like a coach on the field. That's what we need at QB.. sieze the initiative and read defenses with an idea as to what YOU want to do as QB. I hope the vision thing happens for him this season and he starts knowing where to go with a pass even before the snap.

It took him 4 years to get a winning record during the Schiano 1.0 era, and that was the weaker big east conference. Schiano 2.0 is in year 4 now, so it's not like he's doing way worse than his first Rutgers rebuild. But a 6-win season and back into a bowl game would be a very nice improvement.

Schiano isnt a good coach, hes sticks to the original playbook straight through the game cant react to the second half. Schiano never won the big game. Yes 2007 qas a gppd season but had 2 tries to win the conference and lost. Schiano success in the BigEast was after Miami, VT, and BC left for the ACC. Big10 the top teams arent leaving.

Schiano and Rutgers got robbed at WVU to win the Big East oputright in 2006. Fumble at WVU's goal line was earased for no reason and then had a dropped TD pass and teh final overtime forced 2-point conversion attempt was clear PI from WVU and was not called. They was robbed. That said, Cinci's tackling of Rutgers WRs in single coverage so they could load up against the run in a previous game was a lame way to lose a game.. and Schiano should have found a way to get past that. Brian Kelly is a douche who belongs at LSU.

Maybe he isn't the greatest coach, but he's the only guy who's actually built-up Rutgers football into something competitive. If he can do that again they'll be fine, but the big 10 is such a tough conference and its only getting tougher with the new schools coming in next year.

@@somedudenamedryan Schiano erally does understand the history at Rutgers also.. even well before he became coach. I saw him in a video describing how Frank Burns.. who might still be Rutgers winningest coach.. tried to helm the team from playing 1 maybe 2 blue-blood powers a year to basically playing a full Big East schedule including then-powers, Pitt, WVU, Penn State, Syracuse, BC and the likes of Temple and Villanoa, who both produced NFL talent back then... and we just weren't ready. He gets it.

@@u2bemark i think Schiano now has the wins record but i agree. He does get Rutgers football and Jersey. If he could just keep our home grown football players in Jersey and away from schools like penn state that'll go a long way
