Hearing a wrestler describe how to grab a calf just makes PERFECT sense. What an eye opener.

I always love watching whatever you put out on video, Greg. Both for the educational value and just the fact that you love what is going on - the calves running, the cows lowing, the earthworms, birds, lambs. It is such a joy to see someone with such a respect for what this earth can give us if we treat things the right way. Oh, and how gentle your cattle are, no stress tagging and that momma was concerned but not 'out to get ya' while handling her calf. You are an example of good stewardship. Thank you.

Thank you and the boys for another great video. I so enjoyed the learning process of tagging a calf. Seeing those cows and calves come running down that hill gives true meaning to the phase cattle drive. 🤠🤠🤠 I guess I'm missing something because most of the Moma cows calling to their calves sound the same. I’m an old man ranching by myself & the way I catch calves is by grabbing their back leg just above the hoof. I then band the bulls. I then put the calf between my legs & use my legs as a head lock & lock the calf between its head & front shoulders. My steers get ear tags in the right ear & heifers get tags in their left. Makes sorting day easy

Totally correct on that whole calves at the back running if u have a bunch without mommas. We just had that problem for two days they kept going back to the field they where born in.

Amazing! Thanks for showing how you catch them and what yo think about. Great advice. I was wondering how to tag the whole lot in a cattle yards and the chaos I imagined seemed too formidable for anything more than a small mob. I was thinking it could be feasible with several mobs but then you miss out on the grazing benefits

Very Happy Cows and Calves. They learn real fast about the fence also. I saw several put on brakes when came close to fence. They are adorable when running. 056 was a nice calf. Mom stuck real close while tagging. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️ 🙏❣️

Locust (thorn trees) are a constant issue for me in VA along with olives and cedars, cutting Locust with a saw is the best way. I pulled several with my tractor and a tree puller attachment and it tore the field all up. The roots are shallow and spread far. I could never tag a calf like that, the mothers would tear me up. My herd is 2200 spread in half between spring and fall herds. I wait to tag when I band. The few times when I do tag in field, I carry a PVC hay ring behind a UTV and tag the calf inside so the cow can’t attack me.

@Digger9274 жыл бұрын
@@AJ-ox8xyAlmost any land is good for what he's doing. The soils on Greg's farms are mostly pretty poor, or were when he started. Most were overused and played out and they weren't that great to start with. He's raised the soil quality naturally through his grazing management.

I would just add, don’t get between the cow and the calf. In the UK we have to tag within a week and send a passport to the govt. It gives me hope that those young lads will carry on and apply your standards to the livestock industry. Nobody seems to care how their food is reared as long as it’s cheap
@movinon12424 жыл бұрын
You have to realize that for easily 95% of the world, if not more, cost is the singular consideration. "Cheap" is what has enabled the third world to prosper far better than even 25 years ago. Someday the world may become wealthy enough that everyone can eat grass fed beef at $30/ lb and not have to sacrifice to do so. But while we are far closer than we were a generation ago, we are still quite a ways from that.
