Greg Valentine was from the class of workers that did not try to convince the audience that wrestling was real. But he convinced us that HE was real. I love how complimentary and respectful he is toward most all of his opponents and teammates.

More of a belly slap, yet used in most of his matches that he had. Then a small package was used at times.

Greg Valentine is amazing. As a 40 y.o. new babyface, he took on I.C. Champ Mr. Perfect in his prime with Bobby Heenan in 1991 on Wrestling Suoerstars, nd literally controlled the match. That booking had to have been in deferment to all the solid years Valentine gave to the Federation.

At 9:50 Greg mentioned how great it was working with Ricky Steamboat. Is there anybody who didn't like working with Steamboat? I have heard interviews with many of the wrestling greats (Flair, Jake Roberts, Macho Man's brother Lanny) and they all said their best matches were with him. What a pro he was.
@PunkSlapper1233 жыл бұрын
Steamboat was a tremendous in ring performer. He was always in great shape and super athletic. Watching him perform was just amazing.

i use to ask my dad who his favorite wrestler was (RIP Pops) cus he had mags from the late 60s+ and even had VHS with "best of matches (some even of andre in the early 70s and such)" That said, he always said Pedro (cus hed have been like... 19-20ish range in his title reign) or Sammartino. I obviously was born much later but love hearing about names from that time. Helps me get my Pops more haha.

I had the pleasure of meeting him backstage in the old Capital Center in Landover Maryland and I told him that I was trained by Killer Kowalski and I knew that Wrestling was a work, but his matches always looked real to me. He shook my hand and told me thank you for saying that. Greg has always been a real gentleman and a true professional. One of my favorites of them all. Good to see him still going strong in his 70s. He mentions that they were going to put the IC strap on Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff...that would have been awesome. One of the greatest wrestlers in WWF crica 1980's that NEVER won any major title. That is a shame. Orndorff was great. Greg is goldmine of interesting stories!!
@rickstalentedtongue9102 жыл бұрын
Yes, but Paul made a fortune in his programs with Hogan, especially in 86. Chasing Hogan was the most you were going to make unless you took the title from him, which Vince was not ready to allow. 84-85 he had some great programs against the Hulkster though.

Hammer was a very credible challenger for Pedro. He could match Morales move for move and then some. He was also the type of heel wrestler that would get a run with the Intercontinental strap (not a gimmick guy, and could have a good match with anyone), as he did later, and so it was believable he could win. If Muraco wasn't there, I could have easily seen Valentine as the heel beating Pedro for the belt.

Pedro's finish was either the Boston crab or the flying shoulder tackle. He also did this move where they were both rolled up in a small package, and you couldn't tell whose shoulders were down. Pedro usually lifted one shoulder up, except when Stassiak won the belt. No one else has ever said that Pedro was stiff.

He was also declared the all time rough house champion I'd spend 2 weeks of summer vacation as a kid with him and he was like a grandfather to me Wish people would honor the real old timers and pay respect to the lost legends Who if they didn't do their Carney shows There wouldn't be no professional wrestling He also taught me how to speak Carney He start off as a strong man in a carnival traveling show and was trained by the late great Ed strangler Lewis who he also wrestled a few times in Sacramento and San Francisco 🎯💯👊
