I invested in a power rack and put the work in while also focusing on my diet. I'm 38 and work like 80 hours/week. I now weigh 1lb less than I did 6 months ago but my waist is 2" thinner, neck is a half inch thicker, and my arms gained about 1.5". coach greg thank you for this. i am textbook skinny fat and have seen all the vids (you and will), read all the info, and i know i exactly how i want to look. i really like the advice to just get halfway to your dream physique, this really puts it in an obtainable perspective. i know i need to train harder and more consistent. i know that i need to eat more protein. i know that i need to do 150 minutes of moderate intensity cardio a week. i might watch this video everyday. as a newb i am too focused to be perfectly accurate and precise instead of just being consistent. ive learned how to cook and eat with a purpose. i am down 20 lbs overall but now i am sitting at that 25% bodyfat and want to be 15%. thank you for reaching out to us casual people who want to be healthy and look better, and change how we look, but cant become will tenny or jesse james west overnight. im an average ass dude that just wants to improve my health and physique. my tdee is basically 2000 cals (5'10 180lbs) if i sit on my ass all day. im going to start at 1700 cals and see if i can get the scale to drop while building muscle. thats also the hardest part. do i want the scale to drop or the way i look to change more.
@rachels72522 жыл бұрын
You're starting at 1700 calories for a cut? That seems low to me for a male your height and weight. I will be starting a cut under a coach's supervision in February at around 1700 calories and I'm 5'2" 107 lb woman. I'm currently at maintenance, eating 2100 calories after reverse dieting since August, working out 3 to 4 times a week. My coach will have me working out more when I'm cutting. I don't look shredded like many of the female fitness trainers but I have decent muscle definition in my arms and legs, healthy body fat percentage with the exception of the muffin top belly fat layer. Getting defined abs is hard. Congratulations on the 20lb weight loss. Are you doing the cut on your own or under the supervision of a coach/trainer?
@oofmaroomph49132 жыл бұрын
nah don't use tdee as a reference point. remember u have neat (non exercise activity thermogenesis) and if u workout, u could prolly even eat 2000 calories to diet edit : I'm sorry I thought he's referring to bmr since he said "sitting on his ass all day"... but then if u want to increase tdee just be more active throughout ur life
@rachels72522 жыл бұрын
@@oofmaroomph4913 How do you input NEAT into the TDEE formula? Or estimate it based on if your job is sedentary or active? My coach will start me on a cut at 1750 or 1800 calories. I'm doing a slow cut which will take at least a few months. I'm a 5'2" woman so that's quite a lot of calories for a cut. I'm at 2100 calories and have pushed the maintenance calorie boundary to 2200 to 2300 calories. It seems like the original poster, a 5'10" man, should start at higher than 1700 calories as a cut unless he's trying to get quicker results.
@oofmaroomph49132 жыл бұрын
@@rachels7252 NEAT is actually part of TDEE.. I misread the original commenter since he said "sitting on his ass all day long".. that would be more suitable to BMR.. as for how to estimate NEAT, it depends on how active you are... The most popular full body workout using free weights, that is recommended for beginners in a german bodybuilding forum is the following: Squats 3-4 x 6-8 reps Bench press 3 x 6-8 reps Deadlift 3-4 x 5 reps Pull ups 3 x max Shoulder press 2 x 8-10 reps Optional: some biceps exercise 3 times per week I want to start with that plan in the new year after training on machines for several months. I am 41 years old and never used free weights yet. I am a bit concerned for my joints and my back. Sometimes I have problems with my back and my knees aren't exactly a problem, but ... you know. I had so much trouble with how I looked for a couple years. I lifted a good amount in high school and maintained a good 115 at 5' 4" with just eating whatever. Then in college I didn't have access to a home gym and hated using the gym on campus, mixed with full access to the buffet and starting to feel self conscious about myself compared to other people. I picked up intermittent fasting which developed into starving myself and for about four years I was bouncing 100-130lbs, but never looking all that good since I lost all the muscle. There's so much advice out there about losing weight first and gaining muscle later since most people are actually overweight, but for me this advice made me miserable and was completely ineffective. This year I did intuitive eating and reintroduced resistance training for focused muscle groups, gaining about 15 lbs total. I learned a lot about my eating habits and which exercises work for me, so I'm excited to change up my eating and add a little cardio to lose the little bit extra and actually be able to work on compound lifts again in 2022. I just wanted to say all this because a little knowledge of nutrition and resistance training does a lot more than trying to starve yourself into the body you want as a person who's already normal or underweight. I wish I'd realized that earlier (or at least listened to the advice when it was given to me).

I’m not too sure if you had pointed it out in this video but not having strength of the lower abs can make it look like your lower abdominals have body fat but in actual fact it’s that they are weak. @TimPJ2 жыл бұрын
If you lift weights for 6 days a week I'd probably say that you're training too often and not sending a loud enough "growth" signal to your muscles on your training days. What really helped me bust through plateaus like this was to switch from a 6 day ppl to a 3 days a week fullbody split 12-15 sets/muscle/week and really prioritize getting stronger in the 8-12 rep range. What happens if you train too much and not recover enough is that your body only focuses on healing and doesnt get the time to ADAPT. Healing and adapting to stimulus is very different Keep keeping protein high at atleast 1g/lbs/body weight. Prioritize whole foods and get sufficient sleep.

Honestly to anyone who is skinny fat and wants to start trust me just go for it. I always felt shit about the way I look and then I discovered Greg and Derek 1.5 years ago. Went from 66kg to 76kg while going from 20% bodyfat to 13% right now and curretly about to prep for my first bodybuilding show at 19. Starting was the best decision of my life. Greg if you read this thank you for your youtube channel, made a massive difference in my life.

What was your diet like? Did u maingain? Im at 25-30% bf, sleep and eat like ass and Im only 18..
@fitnesswithchris7185 Жыл бұрын
@@tahsincanbilir2952 diet was perfect as soon as I started I commited full in and managed to stick to it. But most people cant do that. Start going gym, get your 1g of protein per 1lbs of bodyweight and find the calories that let you lose 0.5-1kg per week and once you find that just count calories and protein evertday and stick to it. Its not magic, its just science. Get the calories right and train hard you will see progress. And only with time you can start worrying if you can maybe optimise something. Once you get to a bodyfat you are happy with then you can add some calories back in maybe until you are in a 200-300 calories surplus and if you are getting too much bodyfat overtime just do another small cut. Simple stuff just takes time to understand

@@fitnesswithchris7185 I am like 56 kg skinny what should I do
@fitnesswithchris7185 Жыл бұрын
@@asmraishandaim5883 just make sure you get enough protein in so around 90-130g per day should be good for your bpdyweight. And other than that just focus on training hard. And listen most beginners dont understand the word hard. I mean HARD. First few weeks just feel out the gym and keep trying harder and harder each session and try to build up to hard training over a month or two. At that point push it until you cant force your body to move it (or 1 to 2 reps away from that point but as a beginner thats hard to estimate you think you are 2 reps away when you are really 10). If weight starts going down, up calories, if weight starts going up quickly instead of sloely /staying still, lower the calories. Keep fats and protein the same and only up or lower carbs. Its easy enough once you get a hang of. Good food, enough protein, HARD training and it all comes together. Keeping weight arpuns the same while traini g hard means you are building muscle but also losing bodyfat because logically if you built muscle but you still weight the same the bodyfat must be lowered. Do thag untol you arent skinny fat anymore and then think of your next goal either shred or try bulk.

Ive started taking all of Gregs advice and stopped training like a p**sy, eating better with more protein and more low calorie dense food. The difference is crazy. Even in a month my development is much better than before. I look and feel a ton better

I used to be skinny fat (more on skinny side), started working out and bulking to build as much muscle as I could being a newbie. I ended up with even more fat but having gained a lot of muscle in the process I still look way better even at higher body fat. Building muscle is almost always the way to go no matter your condition.

Over the last 16months I lost over 42kg / 92lbs of weight. And while my body fat dropped a whopping 20%, I'm still consisting of over 35% body fat. I have never been so skinny my entire life, but I'm still so squishy.. I used to do 5 days of HIIT body weight training in a week, but the more I'm getting used to it and with less resistance due to not being as heavy as before, I'm stagnant in my progress. I pushed it up to 7 days of workouts and 1 active restday between and 1 rest days after, but nothing happened even then. Since fitness studios are still a bit unreliable atm, I got myself a set of weights and resistance bands and I'm back at 5 workouts a week. Hopefully I will see new / better results once the new year rolls around.

Good luck, mate. I'd suggest you minimize your caloric deficit for a while, but top it off with harder and harder weight training. You can still get extra energy from your excess bodyfat now, and to even maintain your muscle which are used to lifting a heavier person than you are currently, not to mention to increase them, you will need smaller deficit, and heavier stimulation. Two decent dumbbells should do the trick until you are at least somewhat muscular, but ideally you should look for a gym that you find more or less reliable.
@JustSchramme2 жыл бұрын
@@arkdova2710 Thanks for your input. I didn't mention it before, but I'm already down to 1200cals per day, so I don't think I should decrease it any further. But packing in more protein and pushing my workouts should to the trick. I have those dumbbells that you can connect with an additional rod to turn it into a barbell to keep the workout a bit more variable. We'll see how the world is turning in a few months. If it's safe than I'll get back to the gym. If not, I'll expand my home gym and get a personal trainer lol
