I’ve been a faithful follower since 1990, but this new album is weak. Normally, whether it’s Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins, or Greg solo, I’m fucking loving it. Not this time. I’m not one to criticize Jesus H. Dulli until now. Three songs make my cut, baby. Work harder or not at all.

Dulli doesn't consider it a solo album. He's been rather annoyed about it on Twitter it seems. I see his point, that album was outtakes from a few years earlier that he wanted to put out.

Amber Headlights is like the most rockin' album I've ever heard by Greg, actually that album made me see him in a whole new light! Bottom line.., Amber Headlights kicks-a$$ and anyone who doesn't have it, that should be your next mission!

Actually if anyone is familiar with Rescue Me, Denis Leary pretty much produced and wrote most of that, not to mention he used all his own money for that show and all proceeds from Rescue Me, Leary donated all that to the survivors and the families of the firemen who died! Anyway... Denis and Dulli have been buddies for a while and Rescue Me has some Dulli's solo stuff and some Twilight Singers in a couple episodes and it absolutely fits perfectly! Also if you remember a movie call Suicide Kings with my buddy Jay Mohr, Chris Walken, Leary, etc. Well there's a scene I believe towards the beginning where some guys are playing hoops and Dulli is one of the guys playing hoops!!! Lol. Pretty cool if you get a chance to check it out, look for him, it's pretty quick so don't blink, but if you've never seen Rescue Me..... I highly recommend that you sit and binge it, it is so well written that I had a hard time finding anything that could match up to it while it was on! Just an absolutely incredible show, great production, great music, great actors, perfect all the way around! And Leary and the guys on the show with him are just a riot, they are so friggin funny and there's a ton of ball busting, actually that's pretty much what the whole show is..... ball bust bonanza! Adam Ferrera also plays a great part in it also, Lenny Clarke!!!

Anyone else immediately imagine a "second line" ala New Orleans on hearing this? There's something different, more playful sounding in this compared to his other work. Yet still, ever the looming presence of danger/darkness. I could imagine the music video for this being a brass band leading a bunch of LA malcontents on a parade through the Hollywood hills.

Ahhhhh maybe this is what I need to back into the Dullisphere? Been an avid fan of everything from 1992 until…. 2016? What happened then is hard to tell - the new albums were awesome, the musical boundaries were pushed as hoped, but some 2016-18 shows I saw (Danforth, Fairmount, The Great Hall) were curt (Dulli and the flashes!!), had dubious opening acts and unbalanced setlists. Maybe I’m too demanding? Nevertheless, the important is that Dulli keeps rocking, and it is just possible that life just got lighter for a second. So I'm still not over you (just told you why).

Oh my did he ever! He stopped playing 3 times at the Great Hall and although I can understand he doesn't want to see flashes in his face when he plays, it totally killed the mood and made everyone felt super uncomfortable. True that the Great Hall (Toronto) is a beautiful place, but so shitty for concerts (was sold out, but felt empty). Ha! True that the show at Le Trabendo in 2015 was to die for: we got 1.5 songs from Congregation!! But at the Danforth last year something was not right. Opening for Built to Spill was strange and gosh, it seemed everyone was there for BTP and thus treated the Whigs like some local opening band. On top of that (or because of that), they played no songs pre-2014.
