"It’s about feeling like you’re losing time with someone you care about, and not wanting to wake up in a couple of years and feel like you wasted the time that you had. My mom has had a terminal illness for the last 10 years, since I was 12. It was something that I always pushed to the back of my mind, but when I started traveling a lot around Clean, I ended up spending a lot of time worrying about the fact that time is slipping away." LYRICS
The bright August sun feels like yellow
And the white of your eyes is so yellow
The tiny lie I told to myself is making me hollow
I've been choking on truths that I couldn't swallow
I'm falling apart over a memory
And the weight in my heart is getting too heavy
'Cause every word is a nail that slips in slowly
And I can't hammer it down enough to keep holding in
And I could lie but it's never made me feel good inside, I'm still so blue
I can't erase the hue, it's just colored over
I'm thinking of her from over the ocean
See her face in the waves, her body is floating
And in her eyes, like clementines, I know that she's fading
And the light of the sun is only a daydream
And I could lie but it's never made me feel good inside, I'm still so blue
I can't erase the hue, it's just colored over
Loving you isn't enough, you'll still be deep in the ground when it's done
I'll know the day when it comes
I'll feel the cold as they put out my sun
Loving you isn't enough, you'll still be deep in the ground when it's done
I'll know the day when it comes
I'll feel the cold as they put out my sun

When she was in the ocean it made me think that she was numbed with depression with something that happened to her and when she was swimming in the ocean and splashing in the waves it must’ve made her feel at peace while letting out her emotions and in the end she let the water caress her skin and let the waves crash onto her and make her feel whole with the ocean and the warm sun illuminating on her skin while the water caresses her

By studying shoegaze tracks, the music mags of the day, the underground fanzine stuff and the synth mags to get the correct equipment to recreate the sounds 😉. Those guitars are so very 4AD Records, Cocteau Twins etc mixed with Prefab Sprout vibes too. Thomas Dolby, the genius synth master and computer programmer runs courses in a University somewhere in the USA, teaching these sounds and techniques. Same as the Brit School in Croydon.

I lost my Mom , my Dad and brother to a terminal illness and watched each one pass away while holding them. This song is a beautiful representation of my feelings and how even while watching them slowly slip away, I still felt the beauty and warmth of each of their love. It was a letting go of all the pain that their bodies went through and finding beauty in the fact they would no longer be suffering from the disease that ravished each of them. I love them and miss them and know we will all be together again.

@@mahoumofo I sincerely don't think they write solid, great songs. Not all Mommy's songs are perfect, but when she's good she's really really good, like as good as songs get. @OneSilentGiant all these bands don't hold a candle to Soccer Mommy's music. Anyone who suggests the opposite understands nothing. She writes real SONGS. Like real SONGS. Something we haven't witnessed in a while. She's on par with Elliott Smith, Ron Sexsmith or even Townes Van Zandt. Not some pretentious indie bullshit. I'm not easily impressed. She's very solid. And by the way including bands like Cat Power or Angel Olsen is ridiculous. They shouldn't be mentioned in one sentence with Soccer Mommy. Japanese Breakfast is sweet though. But no, they don't have songwriting abilities like Sophia does.

This track never fails to be both a sad and deeply cathartic listen at the same time. The guitar melodies gleam gently with a disarmingly gorgeous brand of calm - Allison has a knack for composing music like that. Her lyrics involving our struggles with the human condition are very relatable as well. One thing I like about her is that although her lyrics are mostly describing her past experiences with keeping her psyche afloat and loss, she delivers them in arrangements that never sound depressing, instead packaging them in somewhat hopeful-sounding and warm, nostalgic colors, specifically with her choice of chords, instrumentation, etc.

I lost my dog to cancer a couple months ago. It’s probably stupid but she meant the world to me and I miss her so much. She was still so young and it destroyed me to see the life leave her eyes. It hurts so much I wish I could hug her and see that she’s happier now

I recently discovered SM through Lucy. I immediately added all the songs I could on Spotify and binged it all a few times over. Now I'm set to get my tickets to the concert in April. I love the power that good music has! ♥️

there's a ton of her earlier lo-fi music that isn't on spotify bud. Look up "songs from my bedroom". So many good songs on that album.

The bright August sun feels like yellow And the white of your eyes is so yellow The tiny lie I told to myself is making me hollow I've been choking on truths that I couldn't swallow I'm falling apart over a memory And the weight in my heart is getting too heavy 'Cause every word is a nail that slips in slowly And I can't hammer it down enough to keep holding in And I could lie but it's never made me feel good inside, I'm still so blue I can't erase the hue, it's just colored over I'm thinking of her from over the ocean See her face in the waves, her body is floating And in her eyes, like clementines, I know that she's fading And the light of the sun is only a daydream And I could lie but it's never made me feel good inside, I'm still so blue I can't erase the hue, it's just colored over Loving you isn't enough, you'll still be deep in the ground when it's done I'll know the day when it comes I'll feel the cold as they put out my sun Loving you isn't enough, you'll still be deep in the ground when it's done I'll know the day when it comes I'll feel the cold as they put out my sun

"Loving you isn't enough, you'll still be deep in the ground when it's done I know the day when it comes, I'll feel the cold as they put out my sun" are the lines that hit so hard. As the person who got to hold, feed and bathe my father, and was with him throughout his dying days, it was really difficult, terrifying, and painful to watch him succumbing to his illness. I was bargaining with time and was wishing it would slow down because I knew he wouldn't be around for long. It's not even acceptance, it's just knowing that he was surely going to leave us. And no matter how much I tell him or myself I love him and no matter how much I do love him, it will never be enough to bring him back. This song is really personal to me and it helps me cope because it perfectly encapsulates the pain and anticipatory grief that a family member feels as they all go through another family member's final moments.
