Very cool videos - and I totally agree with your approach - I call these "benchmark licks" Licks that identify a specific sound. My benchmark lick for this scale has always been the old folk song "Joshua Fought the Battle at Jericho", but I really dig the way your lines outline the chords, while NOT sounding like an exercise.

Mr. Fishman Would you possibly be able to create a video about improving intonation in the future? I find that playing in tune across the entire instrument is my weakest area of development, mostly because that's one area I don't know how to work on. I also wanted to say thank, you so much for continuing to be involved in creating new material for jazz eduction. Your books have been a key tool in my development as a musician.

Hi Saxophonies97. I could do a video, but there are many factors with intonation issues (breath support, tongue position, embouchure pressure, mouthpiece position on the neck, etc.), and many are unique to the individual. If you'd like to schedule a Skype lesson with me, I can observe your playing and try to determine what you need to do to work on this issue. You can private message me on Facebook. Thanks.

Here's a link to the Hip Licks app: Alto version: itunes.apple.com/us/app/hip-licks-for-alto-saxophone/id804076436?mt=8 Tenor Version: itunes.apple.com/us/app/hip-licks-for-tenor-saxophone/id804081976?mt=8 The easiest way to practice! ★★★★★ by RJP1666 - Version 1.0 - Feb 4, 2014 This app is extremely well thought out and easy to use. I actually prefer it to the CD/Book version because of the ability to switch between tempos and accompaniment styles with a single touch. It's obvious that ease of use was of utmost importance because the controls are clean and simple to use. Of course, the content is amazing as well. Thanks for blazing this trail, and bringing your high quality jazz method into the digital age for all of us to enjoy.

Yeah, thanks Greg ! The Phrygian Major possesses a 'romantic' character that more altered scales don't. Very suited for ballads, and a central sound in bEbop ! :)

Hey Fish! Thanks for the vid first of all...second can you tell me about your iPad rig, software, hardware,you seem to have a good flow with it. Thanks again!
@GregFishman7 жыл бұрын
Hi Solostream, the iPad rig is nothing special....just an ipad holder that mounts to a mic stand. I had many of my books converted to iPad apps, and they're really nice. They feature automatic page turns (forward and backward) for hands-free operation while playing along. All apps contain the full book and all play-along tracks. Works on iPad only (no android). You can check out all of the ipad apps by visiting here and clicking on the ipad app button: gregfishmanjazzstudios.com/e_store.html

hi Greg, I notice the reference to your books as App's but I couldn't find anything on the App Store have these been withdrawn ?

Hi Colin, Some of the apps were taken down by apple because they keep wanting updates to the code. Some are still available. I do have a new app designer and all apps will be updated later this year. BTW, please check out my subscription video lesson course. Over 150 video lessons with detailed practice notes. www.gregfishmanjazzstudios.com

Do I still have to learn playing the scale up and down? It's much easier to learn just these two Arpeggios.
@GregFishman9 жыл бұрын
ronnieanand Yes, you still need to be able to play the scale up and down. You should also play it in all intervals...3rds, 4ths, 5ths, etc. Besides, they all sound great, so why not do them?
