I was there the day took that photo at Wormsloe. It was after hours, the gate was closed, and he was not supposed to be in there. I stopped an old white limousine, the kind with the old boomerang antenna on the trunk. The driver got out and asked if they could take a quick photo of Mr. Allman on the oak alley. Of course it turned out to be a photo shoot, and I was not surprised some months later when I saw it on the album cover.

Had the pleasure of meeting the man a few times, well into his sobriety.. while in good spirits seemingly, Ray Charles could’ve seen the pain in this dude’s eyes.. (no offense, Ray. Love you bro). Even yrs if sobriety/clarity under his belt, it was always right there.. to draw inspiration if need be. he’s happy now- he’s with mom, dad & you know who.. also countless friends gone too soon. Give Gregg Allman tour 1974 live album a listen: dreams, don’t mess up a good thing.. both gems. SO UNDERRATED HIS/THEIR ENTIRE CAREER. OK so for maybe 5-6 weeks in 1971 they were given proper respect. Duane got a small taste- then gone. I’m not a fan of brothers and sisters so I think 1973‘s chart topping success was people catching on to the earlier work now that Duane was gone. There’s good stuff on the 73 album- come & go blues, wasted words.. sh*t even Pony Boy is cool. But it’s no Idlewild south. It certainly ain’t eat a peach- I won’t mention the other it’s not even worth it. What do y’all think of live at the Fillmore West?
@joleneloveland460211 ай бұрын
I totally agree about the eyes. I worked at Capricorn Studio in the earlier days. The guys would ask Gregg how he was doing. If he was alright. Gregg would say yeH I'm doing alright,man. But his eyes, I would look him in the eyes, and he was not alright. I'm glad you noticed the same. He could not fool me, his eyes said it all. Over the years I spoke with him and noticed the sadness 25+ years. I think he finally faced it head on when he quit the drugs and the drinking. He slayed a few demons those last few years. I couldn't have been more proud and neither could his brother. The hairs on my arms and back of my neck stood on end . While he was singing Melissa I felt a strong and proud presence. Happy Going Back Home, Gregg. You are in my heart ❤ forever.

I was just 17 in high school when The Allman Brothers came to Jersey. High school buddies and me stoned out of our minds! " I was absolutely posive after that concert that we'd had just seen " the greatest live band ever " ! I'm 65 now and I can remember that like it was yesterday. Duane passed in October 1971, Duanes last words to Greg just a day ve4 his death was, " I love ya". Duanes words , death and passing haunted Greg for the rest of his life one of the reasons was that he hadn't told his big brother Duane that he loved him ! Greg's gone home now and he can tell his big brother Duane that he loves him all he wants now! Greg Allman was Jackson Browne, Muddy Waters, Country music, and Rhthym and Blues all rolled up into one. In his prime the year 1971 " No One Did It Better Than Greg Allman! Greg , Duane y'all take it easy now , may the sun shine on your faces in the presence of the Lord Amen!

Hair ? How bout his talent love for music and musician skills one of the greatest to ever grace The Filmore live or any stage for that matter
As always, Gregg's voice was amazing but the absence of Dickey Betts guitar in this version is very noticeable. If you read the history of the album, Gregg was spending much of his time in California with Cher and Johnny Sandlin had to fly to Cali to record Gregg's vocals for the album. Not long after this came the situation with Scooter Herring that broke the band up for a time. The band was in total disarray from all of this so we are fortunate that the band survived and went on to record some amazing albums
@matthewnovello4712 Жыл бұрын
Gents- we’re gonna just have to agree to disagree on this one.. I’m sticking with my original assessment- this song’s not missing a damn thing.. except maybe 1 more verse- especially with that dope funky piano chord break before another piano or perhaps short drum/bass solo.. Dickey IS amazing. I’m not taking anything away from that genius. But just like Butch’s drums are NOT missed on “Stand Back” from EAP- Dickey’s not missed here.. GnL- you’d mentioned reading an album history: which album would that be- WL or D? I’m only presuming this was recorded 75-76, judging by Chuck’s sound & Gregg’s voice. I don’t think he laid this down for Laid Back.. maybe rehearsals leading up to the Gregg Allman Tour ‘74? I’m constantly KICKING myself b/c now this anthology is impossible to find (I’m not paying $80-100- F that).. I picked up OMT- anthology while in college around ‘99, in a half-off bin at some local yocal record shop in winter park FL. Like most of my CD collection, it’s disappeared.. hung onto a few, no clue where this one went.. anyone know how to save & import songs from ____ to Spotify?? 😂 it’s not on there- Happy Holidays, y’all.. in years past- we’d use this time of year to start lining up the Beacon run in March.. man- I do miss the BROS! Much love, take care of yourselves, enjoy your families.. & remember those we/they lost this year.. prosperity in ‘24

MOOKKS- I’ve searched high n low for this version for years.. it ain’t on Spotify. The album it was released on “one more try- anthology” isn’t on there either. Not only that but that compilation anthology is very hard to come by to. Don’t know why, but it is.. IMO- this version, these players, no Dickey, Hands-down is better than ABB released version. An outtake, no less.. jeesh- the band, just kickin’ it around, jamming.. better than most could hope to do as a band at their respective best. Just saying..

@@jimhamlin6475 chuck's solo & general feel make up for whatever Dickey could've or should've added.. the overall up-tempo of this version is heads & shoulders above the cut w/ Mr Betts. Dickey is great- but NOT missed on this one. Not even a little bit. You can literally FEEL the band, having a ball- making art, smiling ear to ear. Dickey would've brought this session down, had he been there.. He wasn't in a good space at this time
@jimhamlin64754 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, don't get me wrong, I love this cut,.. And Chuck, but I'm just saying that, to me this sounds more like the Gregg Allman tour album a ways back, more than the Allman Bro's band,...even though this good, do check out Betts solo on the same tune on the win lose or draw album, it kicks some serious ass. 👍

Idk, maybe Gregg has a better voice on this one, but Dickeys slide guitar makes this sound so much more swampy. And that end solo... man. But I guess it’s just personal taste so rock on.
