This flowering Texas native, Eupatorium, Conoclinium greggii, is commonly known as Gregg's Mistflower. It is a wonderful butterfly nectar plant to have in your pollinator garden. Mine has gotten a little too out of hand and it flopped over in our recent downpour of rain. It is root hardy to 0 degrees F and virtually pest free. It gets an A in my book for thriving during our extremely hot and dry summer this year.

I bought my first one today. So excited. I am giving it a huge area it can grow anywhere it wants. Fingers crossed.

I'm excited for you too! I have found mine are fairly hardy and like to spread out. So giving yours a large area is a great idea!

Mine always flops over as well! It’s incredibly hardy here in Texas and it spreads through my butterfly garden like crazy! And the butterflies ADORE it 💜🦋

I have had it a full year now and I am finding out how hardy it really is! I can see I will have to "keep up with it" so it won't take over the bed. But I absolutely love how the butterflies (especially monarchs and queens) are so attracted to it.

We planted one 5 weeks ago, and it's doing great despite being planted from a one-gallon container in the middle of a Central Texas summer. We like that the butterflies will land on the flowers and just stay there for a while, rather than constantly floating around the flowers on many other plants. The only concern I have is hearing that this perennial can spread a lot underground, and it needs to be occasionally dug up and divided to keep the plant for taking over an entire bed.

Gregg's Mistflower is a hit with butterflies, especially monarch and queen butterflies! You do need to keep an eye on it though, as it does spread in a garden bed. I pulled up some of mine in the early spring in areas where I didn't want it encroaching other plants. It is not difficult to manage. (At least it hasn't been for me. I have it in 3 garden beds now and I don't find it to be overly aggressive.)

I'm not sure we have Gregg's mistflower in central Florida, will have to check at my local native nursery. Thanks for your videos on individual plants, I've learned a lot!

I don't think Gregg's mistflower is native to Florida ... but you do have mistflowers that are native. They have such nice "landing pads" for the butterflies.

I am going to add Gregg's mist plant to the flower garden. I have a place where it can spread. I hope it does well there. I have added more lantanas, too. I hope you have a wonderful day😊
