One of the first things I tried making in the Air Fryer was Sausage Rolls.I used Edwards of Conwy Sausage meat because they do really good bacon too and some ready rolled puff pastry and some egg wash.I did put some Chopped Leek in with the Sausage Meat being a Welshman.I was Strutting about like Gordon Ramsey for the rest of the Day 😊

Haha brilliant mate, yes that Edward's is great isn't it. Will have to give it a bash at some point pal. Cheers

Only occasionally had Greggs when working on site for a quick fix. Cannot say if Aldi or Iceland is better. Because i class them as junk food to be honest. Have tried Marks and Sparks Best Ever ones maybe once a month. They are nice and meaty with a variety of fillings. More expensive guess they are at £8 Quid for 16 or 50p each. But you get what you pay for in the end. No blood pressure, not over weight, no heart problems and still working in heavy engineering at 68. Get my drift.
@JonPaul19534 ай бұрын
The Aldi and Greggs are 20% pork, Gaz. The Iceland are 45% pork sausage meat, which includes water, wheat and other fillers. So the lower protein is probs because it's less than 20% pork🤔.
@eadweard.4 ай бұрын
For reference, what would a pure-pork sausage in pastry be - 50-60%?
@JonPaul19534 ай бұрын
@@eadweard. Don't know. If it was 100% pork you'd have to take it apart before cooking and weigh the pastry and meat separately.
@stevenham19374 ай бұрын
Nah. Although meat is mostly protein it’s not only referencing meat protein in the figures. For example a bagel has 8-9g of protein per bagel. The higher protein amount could be from thicker pastry etc
@stephenhollinrake9164 ай бұрын
Probably the pork sausage meat is high in fat so the protein will be lower !

Great video. Like you say we are drawn to "big names" and at the end of the day they are more or less similar so it is all about personal preference. I don't mind a Greggs but I also like Morrison's and Sainsbugs fresh and hot from the deli.

I haven't tried the Iceland ones yet, but their other £1 products are good. I've tried the crispy pancakes, both minced beef and cheese and ham, and also the subs. As far as the other sausage rolls in this review are concerned, I did buy Aldi twice, but I went back to Greggs, which taste slightly better.

I tried the aldi sausage rolls before Christmas along with there chicken bakes and considering the price difference between them and the Greg's versions the clear winners for me are Aldi due to the price. Taste wise almost similar so it's no brainer. 👍

Great comparison. I'll have to give the Aldi a try. My problem with these is adjusting the cooking time and temperature because my fan oven burned the Greggs into charcoal briquettes at 200c for 25mins! Some tinkering required or maybe use the non fan top oven that's with the grill. 👍

Sausage Rolls the greatest gift to mankind,and British❤😊 through& through. Now,keeping my hand in i make me own. But with age& laziness Greggs creep in quite a lot now. There are many brands some better,some worse, however I think most of us play safe and stick with Greggs Maybe living on a reputation, but still the No1😊 Allan&Family

It doesn’t pay to be a food snob, Gareth. I used to be pro Morrisons & Asda, Aldi, Iceland, I have now seen the light, for me personally it’s Sainsbury’s, m&s, farmfoods & Lidl. Village Bakery make bread for Marks & Spencer, There sausage rolls are very nice and peppery in taste. I do like Greggs sausage rolls Gareth but I’m like you I love pepper…! So if you boil it down these products are not “so much” about %of meat but more about initial taste… god knows what part of the pig goes into these things and perhaps we shouldn’t know as it could affect us buying them, but most food products are “just about taste”… that’s what makes us buy I think 👍🏻

We like the aldi roll because the slits in the top, for us hold the ideal amount of sweet chilli sauce per bite. I'll be honest and we would not get the iceland roll due to the soy protein, at least it is not GMO soy as that has to be labeled, but we are weary of that atm due to issues with GMO soy being sold as non-gmo soy.
