Oh Gareth. I so feel for you because I’m going through the same. I ended up in hospital after collapsing due to a six day, eight bottle of gin binge. That was four months ago and I’ve had to give up completely. I’d absolutely love….LOVE a nice cold cider from my new bar fridge but I know it wouldn’t end there. Your update videos are a real help keeping me straight big man. For me family BBQs are hardest. Grandad, here normally throws on the meat for a HUGE (14 - 20) family and the count of Magners Irish ciders would normally hit around a dozen or so, just for me, by the time everyone was tucking in. Now it’s tomato juice…spicy but just not the same. Stay strong for all of us, your foodie followers, Gareth. Your videos are more important than I can say. Cheers brother

You're doing great! Keep it up! Have you noticed this? 👉If you go back and look at your complexion from when you were drinking to now (in this video), you look less puffy and your complexion looks great! You look so much healthier! You've got this!👊

Thank you Gareth. I don’t drink anymore but have been struggling to quit smoking cigarettes. It started at the same time because of social anxiety. Your honesty has lit me up:) Signed up for the Stop program offered in Ontario (or the Start healthy living program as I call it) put the patch on and bought 5 bags of Fisherman’s Friends;) Remember to show yourself compassion and take pride in the person you are and what you are accomplishing. You’re an inspiration for so many of us who need to know we’re not alone and we have the strength to succeed and to flourish. Cheers mate and god speed.

Don't get me wrong. I like Just Deano but he has a drinking problem. Left unchecked he will become a hard core alcoholic.

I have 2 suggestions for you. First, if it's harder on the weekend, maybe self-reflect why? Is it to unwind after a long work week? Anyways, that might have a clue for you. But anyways, perhaps try a new hobby, or further develop a current one. The general idea is to keep your mind busy with something enjoyable to keep your mind off of drinking. Do something productive and fun. Keep yourself from an idle mind that might run a bit rampant where you may not want it to. Maintain focus. Think of your priorities like your family, but don't guilt trip yourself....even if you make a mistake. Any one can make a mistake. One further suggestion that helped me quite a bit in the beginning when I went cold turkey to quit smoking for my son. I figured out what I would save if I didn't smoke for a week. A pack of cigarettes cost $7. $7 for 7 days is $49, roughly 50. So I figured I'd treat myself worth that money if I did so. I did the same for a month, then 3 months....then I didn't really want to continue on that same strategy to reward myself in that way for quitting smoking. I looked to other ways. Then bear in mind that depending on the level of addiction, you will always fight those urges. Even today after about a decade of not smoking it can be hard at times...soothing smelling other peoples cigarettes at times....other times it stinks like a old ashtray. If you fall 6 times....get up 7.

I am addicted to smoking Pot and immoral sexual practices, I started to feel my mind fleeting and it would be cloudy all the time. Then very suddenly as i was failing again I heard a loud voice say my name. It actually frightened me because i could hear how scared they were for me. It sounded like horror. I can only imagine the sound of your families voices in absolute shock and worry for you.

Like others have said quit the fake stuff as well I quit 20 years ago and going full stop is the only way. it's not easy and even after 20 years I still get a urge now and again, going to say quitting smoking 15 years ago was harder but an asthma attack that nearly killed me made that choice very simple I like being alive

Thought you said you weren't an alcoholic. You definitely sound like you are one. 16 days off the booze? As someone who really isn't an alcoholic, that's something that is not in any way hard. I can tell you don't want to label yourself and don't want to admit it to yourself and everyone. But I think you need to revaluate.

Can honestly say stopping drinking at 20 yrs of age was needed for me, 51 this year & I wanted to be sober so much so I'd reached my personal gutter, non alcoholic beers will only lead to real beers, 💯 . Take care auld son but If you want to stop then stop. No fake beers just don't lift the first drink you won't get drunk, you've more reasons to stay sober for your kids, no fitba or weekend excuses cos they are no reasons to drink, I won't wish you luck but I will wish you well. No luck involved hard work only

Just subbed! I have lost ppl, do to alcoholism, and I have helped 1 friend get over it. It will be a struggle and it always is. Remember alcoholism is not the problem its is a side affect. To trauma or ongoing problems, with yourself or someone. But the struggle is sort of like going to the gym. The first times you are sore and its painful but the more you do it the easier it gets. Keep ppl updated for sure. I am just a passer by not interested in food or you, but what your doing deserves some interaction a sub and a like. I hope you stick to your guns, for your lovedone sake!

We all get a wakeup call where our health is concerned at some point in our lives. My was a heart attack at 58 because of smoking. That was 9 years ago and I've not touched a cigarette since. I crave, of course I do, but those craving are minimal now. I can even sit with others who smoke and it doesn't bother me. I quite like the smell to be honest. But... I drink alcohol very rarely because I know I could easily give in and smoke when I've had a bevvy or two. My advice is to get the non alcohol ic stuff out of the house. It will always be a reminder of booze. Tip it down the sink and have a decent coffee instead. All the best. Xx
