The Roman rite of Catholicism is Christian, and a plain cross is a Christian symbol so yes even monks could be standing in front of it while adoring God. Btw, nobody adores a piece of wood or whatever material the cross/crucifix is.

@@Gesu_Re_dei_re Normally, monks in Christianity are Catholic. (I think there are also Orthodox monks, but not certain). I have never heard of Protestant monks. That being said, if it is on display for veneration in a Catholic Church, it is a Crucifix, instead of a plain cross. A plain cross may sometimes have its time and place, but not for the main display that is front and center of the Church.
