THE REAL DEAL IN REGGAE. HERE IS 15 MINUTES OF THE MOST SUBLIME REGGAE MUSIC. I've expressed my admiration for Gregory Isaacs many times in the past. Suffice to say he is my favorite Jamaican singer. Called "the cool ruler" he came to prominence in the early 1970's with mainly romantic songs projecting a masculine vulnerability. Isaacs frequently cast himself as the spurned lover, his heart aching because he believes in romantic love so much. In the late 70's his concerns expanded beyond the bedroom to tackle cultural issues such as ghetto suffering and the wicked ways of Babylon. Isaacs was enormously popular in the late 70's rivaled only by Bob Marley and Dennis Brown. And when the dancehall era began he effortlessly made the transition, helped in no small part by his backing band, the magnificent Roots Radics. They cut three classic albums, Lonely Lover, More Gregory and Night Nurse. All four songs from this Peel appeared on More Gregory in 1981. Sit back and let this tremendous Peel session wash over you. Some of the best music you will ever hear. 1. Substitute (0:28) 2. Confirm Reservation (4:21) 3. Permanent Lover (7:46) 4. The Front Door (11:04)
