I find it interesting that it had to be this motherboard specifically. I remember trying to mitigate this issue myself and then seeing people on reddit complaining about the same issue, most of them having this exact motherboard. I might test version 4005 and see if I can reproduce the same issue again. I'm still surprised that it would have been still present in a version nearly 2 years after the bug occurred. Then again, ASUS never really posted a changelog similar to this phrase "Fix inconsistent DRAM POST failure".

Hey Greg. I’m a professional IT systems analyst for the local government I live in. I also build computers on the side for supplemental income. Idk why but I have come across this Tuf series X570 board almost a dozen times and 7 of these boards were either defective, had a bad memory slot, corrupted BIOS out of the box or a CPU problem. I’m not sure why but these X570 Tuf boards are just horrible and not quite sure why. It’s the only series of boards that I have had a problem with. Just food for thought.

I actually had an issue on my MSI b550 gaming plus board, would flick between dram and cpu constantly. The issue was the socket itself being damaged due to a faulty retention arm. What originally happened was that on my first cpu uninstall (same beast of a chip being the 3600) the arm wouldn't budge past around 90% up, not allowing the cpu to come out. I applied a little bit of force, and the latch jumped and snapped the lower plastic of the socket, allowing the arm to extend further than 90 degrees which was all sorts of wrong. checked the cpu for damage, repasted and reinstalled the cooler. That's when the issues first propped up, the fix being to tighten the stock am4 cooler to an almost uncomfortable amount. Went through another air cooler which worked, albeit needing to over tighten it. Then came my recent aio install, that's where the board no longer posted unfortunately. the latch barely moved the cpu socket as it should, and it was flicking between dram/cpu like crazy.

on 11:27 if I'm reading the pin location correct, that bent pin is MB_DATA[9] Pin, which on AM4 is a pin directly related to channel B, I believe that's why you have issue with memory on channel B on the mobo, CPU couldn't read anything from that pin, causing channel B to fail.

So I had a similar issue with my system not posting when populating certain DIMM slots when I got my new motherboard and CPU. I followed a lot of your methods of trouble shooting and came to the conclusion that I had too much mounting pressure with my AIO cooler - which also slightly bent the pins on my 5800x. Thankfully my system was able to post after cleaning and reseating my CPU with just enough pressure. My system didn't like A2 and B2 slots occupied at the same time, but would post with single channel config in any slot, during the troubleshooting process.

I've looked at the AM4 pin layout and that bent pin was for DDR channel B (MB_DATA 7), but would be weird if channel A had issues since most of the direct pins around are ground. Unless that socket had a physical issue that caused that pin to bent and/or other pins inside didn't make good enough contact in that area?

Only thing I can think of is, possibly the board had a defect where a contact for the CPU pin was too high. So when the CPU cooler was tightened down, it caused the CPU pin to push so hard against the contact it bent and the contact on the board ended up damaged.

After fixing the main problem and being able to boot. You should do some test to check stability and temps. I have a small sata SSD drive dedicated to test systems. A W10 loaded with tools like OCCT, furmark, cinebench, heaven, memtest, CPUZ, GPUZ, PRIME, HWinfo64, HWmonitor, aida64, crystaldiskinfo and other sw. Enough so you can so you can be sure the system tested will be ok. Usually, to check a system, I go for a 30min OCCT run in PSU mode. Cinebench to check cpu performance, crystaldisk info, gpu benchmark if necessary and finally I leave the system running mentest bootable (this last test takes several hours) Also after installing a new motherboard or pcie card you should install the specific driver for it so everything works. You can check in device manager if any driver is missing (audio, lan, WiFi, Bluetooth, usb...) Good video

i have this same motherboard. had a similar issue after installing a new nvme ssd after the previous one failed. i installed the drive and windows easily but then the pc wouldnt boot and i got that amber debug light. ram wouldnt work in dual channel a2/b2 slots but would post if i only used one ram stick. both sticks were working in other slots so i cleared the cmos and booted the pc with just one ram stick. i did this with both sticks. it did the same debug cycle you see here, 9:37, both times. I then slotted them back into a2/b2 and it worked. idk if i may have knocked a memory module loose and didnt notice but i still feel like i dont know what the actual issue was. everything has been smooth sailing since. was very frustrating.

literally 3/4 of the pcs that are brought to me for repair that dont just need a new windows install, end up having crazy ass issues like this. glad to see it isnt just me who is burdened with the ridiculousness some of these configs bring.

I had exactly the same problem but with my B450 AORUS elite. I send it in service for repair and they run it ok,without any problem. They send it my MOBO back to me and now it s works out of nowhere. I test it before with another components but had the same error again and again. Still don't know what was the problem but at least it runs now:)

I love this series! I think it's so cool what Greg is doing - the used systems I've flipped over time, I do the same, though I can afford giving away items, but the service is free for as long as you keep the system... Though, I can't do it for everyone (live in a city with 1,3 million inhabitants)... One thing though, that case frontpanel is triggering AF... it's just, ARGH, I just wanna get the drill out everytime it's in the shot!

Nice !! sewing needle is an old trick i use a lot. another good one for straightening pins is a exacto knife

if this was my Ford F250 i would have said it was the muffler bearing thrown the thing up on craigslist. I cant wait to see the vid on this MOBO in the future Greg.

I have this same problem with an Asus B450 board running a 2600x. There's just something about certain RAM sticks and configs that it just doesn't like.

The two compacitors or resistors where being shortened by the graphics card, the two compacitors by the memory provide power to the ram slots, some times the graphics cards have metal along their shrouds that could possible make them touch this can cause the memory channels to freak out and look shorted. That is why with newer motherboards the compacitors have been moved up a little bit.

One thing I met with both laptops and PC's, is that some slots are letting the ram sticks to go too deep in the actual slot, making them to not make proper contact with the pins, and solution for two of my cases was to force the ram to stick out, by not having the clips locking the ram in or to put some plastic/paper material in the ram slot to decrease that depth. Crazy, but it worked for me. Had the same behaviour as here, motherboard is fine, the slots are not 'fine' they just need some adjustments. Try to the fill the slots with something, and try the same thing. (I recommend ethernet cable covers, from the small 8 wires, without the copper of course)

Great video and also a great lesson for anyone that altought experience can guide you, Similar syptoms can have different root causes Keep up the stellar work!

Weird things I have seen that might be relevant: 1. RAM that had weird issues until I cleaned the contacts with a soft pencil eraser. The contacts looked perfectly clean to start with. You did swap the ram, but some electrical contact cleaner in the slot couldn't hurt. 2. Weird RAM issues resolved by BIOS update. 3. Weird POST issues with non-relevant error lights (RAM) caused by a particular GPU with a particular monitor. A different GPU or a different monitor resolved the issue completely. In retrospect, I believe that issue would have been resolved by a firmware update to the graphics card (saw a similar issue later with a GPU that a GPU firmware update fixed).

Oh god this troubleshooting is giving me war flashbacks. I have the exact same motherboard and I believe the problem is with the slots themselves. Even when the RAM clips in, it might not yet be fully seated. It is painfully inconsistent and gave me all kinds of hell. I still get all sorts of interesting problems now, after running my current PC for years.
