I've been building and fixing PC's since 1994. Even as an experienced builder, it is exciting to go through these troubleshooting steps with you. It is interesting to see if my assumptions line up with your findings and even more exciting when they don't! Thank you for all of the great content. I wish nothing but the best to you and your family.

It's nice to have a quick fix like this. The worst are the intermittent issues. Had an AM3 system that was crashing in a very weird manner - it could pass a 24 hour stress test but would crash while idle. The issue was with the CPU, as it would crash if the voltage would drop while in idle. So I had to manually set the voltage to a static voltage, and that fixed the issue.

I built my very first PC 25 years ago. I haven’t built hundreds of PC’s since then but I have a decent amount of knowledge on building them. However, when it comes to troubleshooting, I’ve learned more these past six months than I’ve ever learned in 25 years. Many thanks Greg for what you do on Fix or Flop. I very much appreciate the series and I’m sure many other viewers appreciates it too. 🙏🏾🙏🏾

FOF series has really helped a lot of users for sure to fix their own issues. I was stuck with a BSOD issues for 2 months that finally led to a dying ssd as the root cause. The main difficulty was having to find spare parts to actually test out other components. Spare parts is something not everyone can get their hands on readily, which makes the process all the more difficult.

I brought back some parts of my old gaming PC from France to the US, and once all parts I did not bring were purchased and put together, my PC would not turn on, I could just notice that my keyboard was lighting up, which meant some current was going through. Thanks to this series (that I started to watch because of this issue), I managed to narrow down the issue and turned out that using my old power supply 8-pin PCI cable for the graphic card was not working, and switching to the one from the new power supply made it run nicely. So, thanks for all these videos, I leanrt a lot and still am!

This was a good one and hit a little closer to home than usual. Excellent and informative as always. As an Electronics/PC Repair & refurb and system builder (relatively small, though it often feels like a lot more since it's just me), I get to see and deal with all sorts of....customer bewilderment I'll call it. Nobody knows what who when or why, only that it is and it wasn't before haha. So this one definitely put a smile on my face 😊 I've never commented on your videos before, so I just want to say that you've been one of my absolute favorites since I found your channel. No gimmicks or campy portrayal, just solid and informative presentation that's also just as comprehensive as it needs to be without being pedantic or "getting too deep in the weeds." IMO it's about as perfect as can be for the meeting point between the "techie”/engineer knowledgeable types, the amateur hobbyist, and the early stages/beginners/first timers. Because of this, I have always recommended your channel to all of my customers. So thanks for all the hours of customer service you have likely freed my life from! I hope to still be enjoying and recommending your channel for many more years to come. I would have to ask, just in case you were to ever see this and because every PC repair tech I've ever talked with has encountered this 'problem' so I'd have to ask you too. Have you ever worked as a repair tech out in the wild dealing with the public on a regular basis? If so, have you ever encountered a PC with a real ' bug' problem? Literally, that is. My first was a massive roach nest inside of desktop tower power supply that had recently 'stopped working' (I wonder why). Customer made no mention of the infestation, only that the PC stopped working and that when it was working it had a 'bug issue.'. He also thought it was hilarious after I found the real issue and called to inform him his 'bug issue' was wrapped up in a trash bag sitting outside in the parking lot in the hit sun so it would likely be taken care of (at least the issue at hand, I would hate to see what was creeping around this person's house) and he just laughed for a bit before asking, "so you found the bug issue then, eyyy?". I just told him that the garbage bag and service were free of charge and his PC would be in that garbage bag outside in the parking lot until the end of the day. If it was still there when I was leaving, it would be moved to the trash. It was not out there when I left and I really don't want to think about what happened with it because I can't think of any scenario that isn't terribly disgusting. This was just my first encounter with this 'bug problem' so yeah... But I haven't seen one like that in at least a decade now.

+1 for a bad cable, it could be a bad USB cable as well. My monitor has a USB hub, and the cable broke while connected to the USB port on the motherboard, GND and D- were shorted, and the system would refuse to post, sometime bootlooped, sometimes it would shutoff completly, I went thru some hours of troubleshooting and inspected the cable with a multimeter and found the short. Pulled out the faulty cable and, as magic, the system worked flawlessly, bought a new cable a while after and zero issues since then, the cable failed short somewhere within it, the actual port on the motherboard is perfect.

Der8auer once had a monitor which would not receive any signal from a graphics card via DP, but via HDMI only (iirc). The issue seemed to have been a strange incompatibility between monitor and graphics card. A broken or glitchy USB device could also be the culprit which prevents the system from booting. A friend of mine experienced that with an old AMD mainboard from MSI - he had to unplug his mouse for the system to boot.
