Great lesson Greg! I have completed the first 3 Modules of Walkin' Thru Jazz and find this lesson to be a good simple summary of the techniques covered there. I will enjoy working through these exercises and then dive into Module 4 of WTJ!

Great Richard, good to hear that you are working through the Jazz course. This lesson fits in perfectly. I’m fact I might add it as a bonus video.

Love the contour of these lines . . .

Cheers Steven. You can get some really linear lines with this approach.

Thanks Greg. This is a game changer for me. I’ve never made up my own walking bass line. Can’t wait to try it.

Have fun! Once you get these walking basics down you'll be away creating your own lines.

Hi Greg. I;ve been trying to figure out the logic between all your walking bass lines and there are few things I just do not understand. In the Walking a 2-5-1 Progression 1 where does the E come from in the G7 measure. I thought the chord tones in G7 are GBDF. The same with progression 2 Dm7. I see a G in the line where the chord tones in DM7 are DFAC. Help please..
@GregsBassShed11 ай бұрын
Hey, good question. You don't have to use chord tones for all the four quarter notes in the bar. Definitely use chord tones for beats 1 and 3. For beat 2 and 4 you can use other scale notes or chromatic notes (notes not in that key). So these notes on beats 2 and 4 can be a bit more 'random' as they just join up the chord tones on beats 1 and 3. This enables you get smoother walking line without as many jumps and leads to your walking line sounding more musical. Does that help?

Hello Greg, unless I am mistaken, it is a pity that the currency for the backing track is in dollars because we Europeans have to pay additional exchange and bank fees for purchases in dollars! would it not be possible to charge in paypal as for your lessons!!!! Thank you for this very informative lesson and for your answer!
@GregsBassShed2 жыл бұрын
Hi Giles, I have to pick one currency for my online shop so dollars makes sense because that market buys the most stuff. But there is a Paypal option at the cart page on my website. Would that work ok for you? Cheers
@gillessamson23552 жыл бұрын
@@GregsBassShed Yes if the currency of the option is euros otherwise I'm afraid it won't change anything! thank you in advance, because I don't want to force-feed the banks unnecessarily! Musically
@GregsBassShed2 жыл бұрын
@@gillessamson2355 I just tried and it converted dollars into pounds via PayPal. I guess it would do the same for Euro, also with no fees? I agree with your sentiment of not giving the banks anymore money than necessary. It’s a pain that I can only charge in one currency!
