What kind of pump and filter?
@GregsTurtleHavenАй бұрын
Lowe’s pump inside a Lowe’s filter box. If the plants don’t take over and make the water more clear, I’ll switch to a canister filter

Any predator problems with this? I've been worried about making anything outside for my musk turtles since they're so small.

Good question. I’m on a small bayou, so I get lots of wildlife passing through my yard: raccoons, possums, squirrels and birds, including raptors and egrets. The only animal I’d truly worry about is the raccoons-those guys will get into anything they can get their cute little paws around! Perhaps the enclosure is sufficiently deep that raccoons wouldn’t be a threat when the turtles are in the water? And since basking happens during the day, they should be fine since I seldom see raccoons in daylight hours. Any precautions to take? Fabulous container, by the way. It looks so natural and peaceful.

I have a story about this question. It’s sad for us turtle lovers so if you don’t want to read , turn away. When I was a kid we caught a ton of western painted turtles in the pond near our family cabin. Well one summer we wanted to see how many we could catch over the weekend and release them before we left. We had an old John boat and it was half filled with rainwater. So we started catching. We had 30+ painters in this boat. We woke up the next morning to find all 30+ turtles cleaned out completely. Empty shells. It was raccoons. To this day I think of this story from over 30yrs ago when I see a raccoon.
