I think the max voltage limit in gregtech is enforced by connections, meaning you can have more voltage in your network than should be allowed by the cables, if no single connection on a machine draws or produces more than the max your cable allows

That's only true in GregTech Community Edition which is present in Omnifactory and FTB Interactions. However, in this version of GregTech, this bug is not present and hence you cannot bypass that max voltage limit.

EU/t isn't the only thing you should be looking at. Macerator takes 800 EU per crushed ore, while the forge hammer takes mere 160 EU. Macerators take 20 seconds (ULV) compared to forge hammer's 0.5 seconds (LV). And then add up that you're using LV, so the macerators are actually overclocking, so you need 1600 EU per crushed ore - ten times as much as for the forge hammer! :)

Let’s say you want to buy a house, it’s 1 million dollar in cash, or 1.8 million over a period of ten years. If you have cash you pay cash. If you don’t then you take a mortgage and pay extra overtime. Can’t afford 5 machines running at 24 eu/t each. But I can afford 5 machines at 2eu /t for a considerable amount of time longer. Same concept and super easy :)

@@Lashmak Yeah, but you're not getting input that fast - just put batteries in the machines to deal with the supply spikes and you're going to be fine ;) You shouldn't have trouble making as many batteries as you need, and you'll get loads of energy storage you'll want for other reasons anyway.

Your ore processing is not going to work 100% of the time. The reason is, that machines will overclock recipes if they are of a higher tier than the recipe. The ore macerating is ULV (Tier 0) and you are using a LV (Tier 1) machine - which means it is overclocked once. With higher tiers, this effect can stack multiple times. The effects of overclocking are: For each overclocked tier, double the processing speed (in the case of the 20sec maceration time, it will only be 10 sec in a LV machine). Also, for each overclocked tier, the recipe needs 4 times as much energy per tick, so each macerator will use 8 EU/t for the maceration. Although energy used for each item goes up by a factor of 2, overclocking is still really nice for the speed up - although for some things this should be kept in mind for e.g. fuel processing (it might make fuel production result in energy loss). EDIT: btw, here a a few cheesy ways to progress in Thaumcraft without progressing to HV. Eyes of the ender can be traded from villagers. Also, you can get Stainless Steel. There are two ways - one is just from loot (spider infested greatwood trees, other thaumcraft structures, witchery circles, ...), but it is very rare, so not really worth going for it (as you will only get 1 ingot then anyways). The second way is to do the loot games (a little memory game) - They have really great loot that helps you in many ways, but you can also get various sizes of stainless steel pipes, of which you can smelt down most of them into the ingot - and you only need one for 4 screws with a lathe and cutting machine.

I know Greg tech can be confusing, and you can't catch everything all the time. I just wanted to gently point out that your ore processing argument (against using a forge hammer) is flawed. The forge Hammer does use more power, but the processing time is 10 ticks instead of 20 seconds. 20sec x 20ticks x 2eu/t = 800eu to macerate 0.5sec x 20ticks x 16eu/t = 160eu to forge hammer Unless I've missed something unique to GT:NH forge hammering things is not only 40x faster but also 5x more power efficient. If sustaining 16eu/t is an insurmountable barrier you can maybe invest in some battery buffers to store up power when ores aren't being processed.

Although for this I still would have gone with macerators because I can afford a few eu per tick and hammers would exhaust my steam supply rapidly. But now that I have access to more batteries that’s a really neat solution.

@@Lashmak awesome, I'm glad you found it helpful! Again, it's a little counterintuitive, because the power consumption is spread out over time. But in the long haul the hammer does save you power. It costs more power in bursts, hence the battery buffer, but in the end it costs five times less EU overall to go the hammer route over macerators. Kind of like making minimum payments on your credit card, it's easier to swallow over time, but costs you a lot more than paying upfront.
