Hello out there! I am so overwhelmed by all of your support, this is insane! Thank you! I have gotten a lot of questions about the shaders - so I am going to make a short video explaining the installation, settings I use, and some options you might want to consider especially if you aren't playing on a supercomputer. Look out for that on Sunday! Episode 2 is in the works as well! Thanks again everyone

"learning how to enjoy gaming again" That sums it up quite well. I've never played a save in a game for such a long period of time. The grind that is GTNH is a blessing in its own right. By forcing you to go slow the game makes you appreciate the leaps in progress a lot more. New machines can turn what was a soulcrushing grind before into a comfortable process afterwards. Basebuilding is something that I mostly ignored in other modpacks. When you don't need a lot of time to get all the resources you could ever need, there is hardly any reason to build a nice house. With GTNH however one quickly realizes that there is much time to be spend in the base which encourages you to turn it into a place that's comfortable to live in. What I really like about your video, is how you portrayed that personal story from the humble beginnings in a hole in the ground to a new shiny factory building. I really emphasize with that feeling of leaving your early game base behind, because you spend a lot of time there and it really becomes a sort of home. Have fun on your journey! It only gets crazier from here.
@Garronimo5 ай бұрын
so accurate - for too long i had this version of what gaming was supposed to be in my head, just intrinsically fun - but the truth is the more you put in the more you get out. GTNH is the perfect way to realize that again if you had forgotten it like I had.

It’s nice to see a channel aimed at the uninitiated. Threefold is a good channel with some great content, but his content is “experienced expert mode” and it’s extremely well edited, but in such a way that’s almost completely inaccessible to anyone not in that category. My best advice for mod packs like this is as such. 1. Forums and community are your friend here; nei is a rabbit hole that works best if you know what you’re looking at/for but is ultimately incredibly frustrating. Go to KZbin and/or ask people directly. 2. Frustration is a demoralizing beast. Take breaks when you get frustrated. It will save a lot of time, when you don’t have to clean up mess from rash choices. 3. This game - most things Greg/terrafirmacraft related- are slow games. I encourage you to have multiple projects so that you can switch between them as they require processing time. 4. Your first playthrough will be a lot and when you finish you might not think highly of your base, but it is your first base. You couldn’t have known to do it better when you started because you hadn’t built it ye. 5. Base building is a great side objective when you are waiting for things to finish. This can be anything from organizing storage to making things look pretty to adding new parts. 6. Go big or go home. If you need to collect a resource it’s best to do it in bulk. Better to have it than not, and there aren’t that many base materials that you only need in small quantities

haha yes i watched early parts of the ballers run that was done by the GTNH devs (vods are on sampsa's channel) and they got to AE in mere days. Completely insane, though there are quite a few of them and they are the devs lol. I took basically a direct path to AE and filled all the ore processing time with bees and thaumcraft (using the block gate trick before i realized it was considered a bug saved at least 15 hours alone), did nearly everything in massive batches with no automation other than fuel (so minimal time spent making machines, tinkering with setups, etc), and used the home command

Man I would love so much to be paid to play this gem... I'm currently unemployed trying to find a job I actually want to do (not like the one I had before) and it sometimes comes in my head that I should better be spending my time on something I would actually be paid to do (3D rendering and engine programming) instead of playing GTNH but I never had such a gaming experience in almost my whole life. I thought about making videos about my gameplay (~700h, mid-HV) but even if the communty is very welcoming and kind I don't think it's gonna be enough to pay the rent of my condo in Paris haha

Also - public speaking, relationship management, time management, marketing, SEO, video editing, and storytelling can all be valuable skills in the right context - not just youtube. @@Garronimo I need to plan out the tiers and builds more thoroughly I think. Getting overwhelmed in steam age isn’t a good sign for me lol I’ve dabbled a few times in the past but sticking to it now is like almost a chore lol What’s your best approach to prioritizing materials/tech/bases?
@Garronimo2 ай бұрын
@@Clodaak Steam is the first test of will! hahaha. Early game go straight at steel to get alumite for the tinkers workbench for the hammer. I don't see a reason not to skip literally everything you can to bee-line the hammer. Everything becomes faster once resources are faster. My personal recommendation is live in an ever-expanding hole in the ground until late MV, since by then most of the major accessory mods are available or about to be, and you'll have a better idea of the things you want (in addition to the things you need) for base planning purposes. By then you should have enough power gen to spare some for building blocks. Use the hammer (and miners backpacks/diggers backpacks) to mine every vein fully until you can afford miners during MV. After you return from the moon you can use the personal dimension if you want. After that, the world is your oyster, for base building - lawn-bases are by far the most efficient for managing wiring/cabling, and the personal dimension is best for that. But, if you're more like me and take a build-based approach to the game then my suggestion is to build WAY bigger than you think you need to, and if you end up with unused space in a build be happy that you have space left for decoration :P
@Clodaak2 ай бұрын
@@Garronimo Is alumite better than steel, since it's higher in tier according to the tinkers material list. Also, did you ever move base locations completely or did you pick one spot and expand from there solely?
@Garronimo2 ай бұрын
alumite is better but you need steel to get it! I stayed in the same spot on the map but built a completely new base after coming back from the moon. There are more episodes on my channel if you want to see where we take things from here :D

@Garronimo5 ай бұрын
I did! I am using ComplementaryNeon by Sampsa (GTNH Dev), it's a slight alteration of Complementary Shaders v4.6 (4.7 is out at this point I believe). you just need 2 things: 1- Optifine for 1.7.10 2- Your shader of choice The GTNH wiki has some details on which shader packs work best and how to customize them to fit GTNH, but neither ComplementaryNeon or Complementary Shaders require any customization, which is why I use those :) Just drop optifine into your mods folder, then launch the game, go into settings ->shaders and select your shader if its already in the folder or user the open folder button and drop your shader zip in there, then select it. If you plan to use architecture blocks (the sloped ones) - be sure to turn "old lighting" on in the shader options. Hope this helps! Fair warning - they are resource hogs :P
