we are actually pleased with both the results of the ZV-1 and ZV-1F for live streaming. BOth using the built in USB or HDMI. Ill be doing a short live this afternoon using both cameras and both connections to see if you can actually see a difference once youtube gets its hand on the streams coming from OBS. Don't unplug a USB cable by pulling the cable itself, but by pulling only the connecting head, otherwise you'll damage the cable and it will start to malfunction at some point. Applies to all cables.

So theres no need for a dummy battery? I know it’s supposed to charge when plugged with the USB-C but does it charge when it’s plugged with the mini hdmi to the capture card and then to the pc?

I know this is 5months old but....Correct, no need for the dummy battery. I just got finished testing your theory. USB-C was charging the camera while the mini HDMI was plugged into my capture card which was projecting the video on Zoom.

Can you use the defocus button to get bokeh when you are streaming via the direct USB connection or when using a capture card? I heard that function may not be accessible. If so, is there are workaround to get bokeh from the ZV1f on a Zoom call?

Spot on demo Greg, exactly what I was looking for. USB C to USB C in theory should manage 10Gbps data transfer, so clearly the camera's USB hardware lacking the throughput for anything above 720p. Very odd on Sonys part, even 1080p would've been nice without a camlink or similar. Apparently, one of the bigger full frame alphas can manage 1080p over usb. I almost pulled the trigger on a 6400 the other day, but research and videos like this has done me well!

yeah im hoping that they incorporate 1080p in their next budget ZV cameras. but for now I'm super pleased with the cheap HDMI capture card.\

Shoud not have to say NOT!!! to pull the cable but the usb itself so they will last longer maybe thats why the first cable did not work. Hdmi is crispier but has a litlle more blowout.But higher res is also very nice.

What is that exact plug type and name of it that you used for the camera to stream?

USB-C if you are using the camera itself, Micro HDMI if you are using a capture card

I liked the video, I think the set up is coming along just great. and I like that you are using stuff that you already have . Also buying new stuff like the desk when you need to. Are you going to buy a new microphone for the new setup or are you going to use the one you already have.

I’m so confused. Doesn’t the ZV1F have a mini HDMI to HDMI function? So wouldn’t I just plug into the mini HDMI on the camera, and an HDMI port on my computer? And wouldn’t that give me more than 720p?

HDMI on your computer is for sending video out. Not in. So you would still need a capture card to capture HDMI footage. If you use the USB than you get 720P

the zv line of sony cameras can power off of their usb. so you dont need a dummy battery.

Hello. I'm looking for a model that I can use in live broadcasts. Photographing my lines at home and broadcasting them live will not be an external purpose. There is a capture card and I can easily connect it to the PC from there. My budget is $1000 including lens. Would this model suit my purpose or would you recommend another model? HI! I have to record, not stream, with Sony ZV1 on Obs in Fullhd in the best possible quality. I connected the Sony via HDMI to a GeForce 3080(with hdmi in/out), without connecting the USB for recharging, deactivated control via smartphone and activated remote control from PC, but Obs doesn't see it. Do you have any tips? THX!

I can't get my Sony zv-f1 to link to OBS through Camlink using HDMI. It intermittently works but only show a still so no live feed. My firmware is version 1 and I don't have the card with the system on it in order to upate.
