what would your advice be on glulam arches.... to get a higher ceiling and longer distance spanned between posts?

Yes, larger beams can be used to reduce the amount of posts used and you could raise the height of walls and posts for taller ceilings. I don't know how glulam arches would help, because it could change the design of building.

@@gregvancom I would expect it to change a lot of things such as an increased snow load maximum, a steeper slope to the roof, larger volume of usable floor plan, etc.

Hello Greg! I’ve been watching through your videos and really like what I see. I’ve recently run into a problem in my home. I have a crowned floor joist in two different rooms. I have basement access underneath to both. Can you make a video on this topic? I was either going to rip up subfloor and plane down the joists, or make a cut down the center to lower it, and sister it up. That cut would be much easier but doing something like that makes me nervous about ruining the structural integrity of the joist itself.

I put it on my list, but don't know when it will be made. I would cut the joist in a few places and install a new one next to it with the hopes of pulling the crown down. However, you can fix it from above by using a plane to straighten joist if that will be easier.
