Just waned to let you know of my comment to Aiden of UrbanArkOverland "I've been an armchair van conversion guy for about 5 years. Looking at layout more than installation videos, as the 1st van conversion channel I watched was Greg's. I started by watching KZbin videos with David John's Cruising the Cut and then to his Vandemonium, where I was introduced to Greg's channel. Watched all of John's and Greg's videos at the time, and started watching others a few years back. Although I have enjoyed many other people's channel, just as you said, Greg's "can't be topped". With all the information found in the videos I have saved links to, perhaps one day I too will do a build." Thanks Greg!

That is so fantastic to hear and thank you for taking the time to write such a nice comment. I'm also a huge fan of both David's channels and have been lucky to meet him a couple of times. I hope you will be tuning it to the new van build series that we have just started and armed with extra info who knows that van of your own could be a reality.

Around 9:30 you got it right. We call it a "medronho" fruit, from a tree we call "medronheiro". Biggest use I know of is to make a spirit drink, called "aguardente de medronho", quite famous in northeast part of Portugal (Trás-os-Montes) as well as in Algarve hill mountain, Serra de Monchique (not only, but those are two regions where I know it's super popular). Can't stress this enough, your videos are absolutely amazing, and among best touristic promotions Portugal could have. I must thank you for that!

Absolutely stunning places. You have certainly captured the magic with your drone and when I saw that cable that it narrowly missed ascending the dam, it could have been game over. Don't break it Greg, we want to see more like that.

I was aware of the cable and I think it looks a lot closer on the video than it actually was. But I’m much more confident with it and fly a lot just by FPV now with no line of sight. Hopefully the shots will improve too as I learn more about photography settings too 👍🏼😊

Really enjoying your tour so far Greg. We have a large motorhome and bought a motorhome specific SatNav which you program with width, height and weight. It's an absolute godsend for Portugal. We still come unstuck from time to time though, usually when I try and reduce some of the routes with Google Maps! I really wanted to pop over and have a chat with you whilst we were at the Castelo Branco Municipal site (mid October I think it was) but it was pretty wet and miserable for a couple days and we were all stuck in. Hi Greg glad to see you and Lou looking well and both enjoying an amazing trip in the N2 areas of Portugal. I have been a Subscriber right from the very early days when you first started your van build and I would like to congratulate you on very deservedly passing the 150 K mark. I really enjoyed this video especially the drone shots and I am looking forward to the next one. Those old stone built windmills seemed to have some really weird blades were any of them still operational ? I see you rattled a few of the green woke brigade with your comments about the wind farms, I entirely agree with you I think they are a terrible blight on an outstandingly beautiful landscape. I fully support that we need to produce as much renewable energy as possible but I would really like to see figures showing what the total installation cost of one of these Wind turbines is and compare the value of the energy it produces over it's operational life time. I fully expect their saviour will be Nut job Putins crazy war in Ukraine pushing up world energy prices !! Just goes to prove that old saying " It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good " Did you ever get to try the spirit made from the berries you tasted please. Have you decided where you are going to spend Christmas? Is there a particular area you are heading for? Please compliment Lou on her drone flying whilst your driving off into the distance I hope you go back and pick her up and don't make her catch you up when you stop !
@GregVirgoe Жыл бұрын
Firstly thank you very much for being with us since the early days. Not many viewers watch the travel videos most just come here for the technical stuff 😊 Sadly when you’re in the public eye you cannot have an opinion about anything for fear of upsetting someone 😂 Renewable energy always costs a lot and it’s not about return on investment iota an investment in the future of the planet. The key thing would be how much carbon was used and emitted to produce them and would that be recovered during its life? Thank you for noticing that Lou was flying the drone she will be pleased for the recognition. I had to rush back to land the drone 😂 Thank you once again for the support and for great comment too 👍🏼🤩
@GregVirgoe Жыл бұрын
Ah and regarding the old windmills, you would have cloth sails fixed to the timber and ropes like a boat and none were operational although a couple had been converted to tiny homes and had people living in them. Lovely location.
@Kayte... Жыл бұрын
Another great vid and drone work. Wind turbines do have their issues though I'm sure they're better than coal with it's many issues from extraction to the other end of it's cycle - serious pollution. Fortunately wind turbine development continues and hopefully soon we'll see ones that are more ground level and look more like calf pens. No exposed blades either. I don't know if they have noise issues like the tall bladed ones have. We need to continue to develop batteries too without the environmental issues. Here in the states, the vast majority of subsides still go to the gas and oil industries. Just think how much faster environmental solutions would occur if the subsides were instead directed in that direction. In the mean time, we can switch ham and cheese for hummus and pesto.
@GregVirgoe Жыл бұрын
Yes of course I totally agree they are far better than coal fuel and you are right it needs major investment. The offshore fields are better I feel as they don’t spoil what is a beautiful location. Solar is advancing too with organic cells and higher efficiency so there’s hope for future tech
@RedBatteryHead Жыл бұрын
Ancient wind mills were a sight too. The new turbines are necessary for the energy demand. Didn't see much housing with PV. So has to come somewhere.
