What is dementia? Is it inevitable as we live longer that more of us will suffer dementia, or could we live longer lives without getting it?
There are hundreds of different causes of dementia, and this lecture will look at how they are diagnosed and where we are with treatment and prevention. What can you do to reduce your risks of getting dementia, and - if you do get it- what’s the best treatment?
A lecture by Martin Rossor
The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website:

Very interesting lecture. My own thoughts are that alcohol plays a significant role in mental decline but this was barely mentioned and even joked about.

Most people would rather have their meat, oils, salt and fructose all swigged down with alcohol and joke about it. That could be ignorance but some of it is likely to be cognitive dissonance.

I hope that other viewers did not immediately switch off after the ominous "yes" at the start of this item. I almost did.

I've been watching some fascinating lectures on this topic by Peter Rogers MD who has studied thousands of brain scans of patients with dementia in the course of his work. Chronic hypoxia is proposed as a leading cause.

Very important information, well presented. Dementia is not the disease, Alz is only one type of many, and impacts can be selective, not global.

May I also suggest that people decide to cut down severely/cut out entirely added sugars in their diet? There's a 'magic bullet', right there!

And/or COVID itself, especially "long-haul." Choose your poison? But, yes; this new concern needs explored, understood, and made known so we can make educated choices.

You do know that humans cannot digest most raw vegetables. Fruit and nuts yes. Also raw meat and fish. The protein of which are arguably part of what led to the development of our large brains in the 1st place. Personalky I do eat a little meat and dairy but actually prefer vegetables and love many raw root veg but am careful not to rely on them for nutrition.
