My son is age 35. He became a type 1 diabetic when he was a child at the age of two years. I am so impressed with Liz Parrish in her role as a mom of a type 1 diabetic son, and admire her great resourcefulness and creativity in her response to and in the face of her son's illness. Amazing lady!!

What you're looking at is a matter of skin elasticity, and neither gene therapy addresses that. However, the intramuscular fat reduction is extremely awesome. Muscular degeneration is one of the primary causes of "feeling old". An old person whose heart can beat as powerfully as a young person would be so productive and feel so great. People need to understand that trying to judge the effectivity of the therapy by her looks is wrongheaded. Looking younger and living longer are different. She's reversed aging when it comes to a bunch of internal stuff that help determine lifespan, but her gene therapy did absolutely nothing to her current skin structure, nor was it meant to.

If we can quadruple the lifespan of other organisms the problem is probably a combination of the current paradigm we are living in and finding the right combination of treatments. With enough science behind it this will definitely work in the future.

skin aging is not just about the youth of cells...there is a lot of protein, such as collagen, in skin and remodeling of that causes skin to develop wrinkles and how to it retains moisture. The therapy she took might prevent her skin from aging at the same rate as her current age, but it doesn't reverse all the tissue structure that has damaged after 40ish years of sun exposure. You still need nanotechnology and need drugs to help remodel extracellular structure of tissue

This is all true, but that doesn't mean that what she's doing isn't worth it. I'd be amazed if the first leap forwards in repairing some of the damage cause by our cells to ourselves due to the aging of the body was a single solution. It's going to be a multitude of therapies, and slowly but surely figuring out what works and what doesn't is a good thing, and if what Parrish has done gives us all an extra 10 years of good health then that's 10 years where we aren't suffering as much, and 10 years where new solutions can happen.

If it reversed the aging in the mice, then why did they die, and why was only a 25% increase in lifespan? Surely if they reversed the aging, then the mice would just continue living?

I don’t know about improving human abilities (or something like that) by editing DNA but if we will not decrease intake of alcohol and other substances that damaging it (in many countries it is a big problem) then we will have a 100% crazy mutants in a few generations guaranteed. Maybe if people learn and understand what consequences can make their choices on their dna (at least) than there will be much less of bad choices they make.

we will just have to wait and see if this works or not. i think it would've been better for us to see the clear change if someone who is over 60 had undergone the therapy. since she is not that old or at least doesn't look that old, it's hard to detect the changes in her appearance. at least there are no extreme side effects like the one you see in the marvel films..that's good thing. Even if she fails, they will do research about why it didn't work in humans and it will reveal something which is better than nothing i guess. anyway i'm glad that she had undergone the therapy, even though it's controversial, it is definitely better than just sitting and waiting another decade for FDA to approve the therapy for humans.

The purpose of calling ageing a disease is not so much as to relabel it as a literal disease but so that we might treat ageing in the lab as a disease in order to enhance the effectiveness of any sort of treatment for aging.
