I think all your theories seem valid. It seems to me like a jokey way to deflect the question. Here we have the phrase "to fob someone off" which means to deflect in a dissmissive kind of way.

Oh guys I was a teen when I was listening to Narniaweb, reading the site and forums, during all those Walden movies. Now in my 30s getting ready to do it again, not just looking forward to the movie but being part of the fanbase again.

I haven't watched Greta Gerwig's adaptation of "Little Women", but I would love to hear a Talking Beasts podcast episode discussing her approach to adaptation through the lens of her work on Little Women.

I don't think Gerwig will take a similar approach with Narnia, mainly because the book Little Women had some broad parallels to Lady Bird, the movie that put her on the map. Narnia doesn't have any parallels to it and seems like a random thing for her to do.

A Narnia Rock Opera does sound like an interesting idea. but i don't think they're going to do something like that. That sounds like something that would've been kind of cool to see in like the 1980s from someone like Canon Films. Mainly for some reason hearing you say this makes me think either Masters of The Universe or Tommy as far as the aesthetics of a Rock Opera. 😆

You mean these podcasters? They're fans of the books. Why shouldn't be the audience for a good adaptation?

I'm not sure how you can possibly know Netflix's target audience for this new Narnia project, but I agree with you that Narnian superfans are not going to be the most profitable source of ticket sales and Netflix subscriptions, since we are a relatively small demographic. The problem with a lot of Hollywood film projects is that they don't pick a specific target audience. Netflix needs to decide whether they are trying to appeal to fans of the books, or young adults, or nostalgic adults who saw the Walden Media movies, or a new generation of children. Trying to appeal to everyone would be a bad decision, because everyone would be disappointed. I think that both serious and casual Narnia fans will watch this film no matter what, so it makes a lot of sense for Netflix to focus on a different target demographic.
