According to Time Magazine, Greta Gerwig is working on a new adaptation of “the first book” in The Chronicles of Narnia… which, considering the controversy surrounding the Narnia reading order, offered no clarity for fans about what to expect. That said, there is still much to discuss.

for your question of what do you think Gerwig is up to? I REALLY HOPE, it's Magician's Nephew. I've seen a few different versions of Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, I think we can wait a bit before we get another one. Not to demean the other adaptations at all. I just think there's open space and it could be interesting to see Nephew done since I don't think it has been attempted on screen yet. Unless somebody did a cartoon fan animation years ago or something that i'm not aware about. not really in the fan space. But as far as what they WILL DO....my cynical side thinks Wardrobe just because it's easy to market because it's been done before and a safe bet with drawing people in with something familiar that will get some surface level people mildy interested but not excited. It probably all depends on what the first trailer looks like. But i kind of assume most might be turned off due to the Netflix association or something. ...at this point I have no idea. things are way too far off at this date. And they're probably still in pre-production right now and won't really be saying anything.

> little moments Aslan reminding Lucy that there are others who need her fireflower water. To me that’s so key - that Narnia isn’t just a romp for the Pevensies. To look past themselves that little bit.

An adaption of Magicians Nephew would be brilliant! Any adaption of that story would be brilliant as I've been wanting to see it in screen since I first read the book in the early 80's!! It would have to be set at the proper time though... no putting it into the modern day pretty please.

I agree! That early 1900’s time period is so essential for The Magician’s Nephew

yup, mid 1800s to early 1900s totally. from your modern day comment I assume you heard about Paramount's attempt at Narnia in the early 90s with the Enchanted Cheeseburger😆? I don't think the producers would be that foolish to set it in the present day. I'm sure they have enough sense not to do that.

If I could make my own Narnia series, which I would absolutely love to do, the order would: 1: Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 2: Horse and His Boy 3: Magician's Nephew (narrated by Professor Kirke to the Pevensies) 4: Prince Caspian 5: Voyage of the Dawn Treader 6: Silver Chair 7: Last Battle But I don't think Netflix are thinking that out of the box, they'll either choose release order or chronological order. I think they will choose chronologically order so that they stand and they can pretend they are adapting them "properly". The only way you can adapt them properly is to include the Biblical references and even add more than C.S. Lewis included

They should do the first 4 as 4 seasons (pub order) and the last 3 as movies.

The Last Battle would have little appeal as a movie imo - too ugly.

I think it'd be cool to see The Magician's Nephew adapted first because 1. It's like a multiverse story which is popular currently due to the MCU (and comic books) 2. I like really like The Magician's Nephew, it's probably my favorite. 3. There's already the LWW movie

I read the books in the order they were published. In my opinion, LWW, Prince Caspian, and Dawn Treader all flow together, so putting Horse & His Boy in there sort of interrupts the pacing in my opinion. Similarly, The Magician's Nephew and The Last Battle also are like a 2-part story, like Infinity War and Endgame. On the other hand, it could be interesting to have read Magician's Nephew 1st, and then after all the books, see all the characters return in The Last Battle... but I don't know.

if starting with The Magician's Nephew you get to be introduced to not just Narnia, but the woods between the worlds, which could allow them to explore other ponds.

I wouldn't say I'm a Gerwiggle. I'd say I'm Gerwiggle curious. I haven't seen her full filmography. I've only see The Barbie movie. And that I liked, especially the whole Ken story and the memes that spawned. Especially the Pete Davidson crazy unhinged version vs the clean cut version of Ken template. i'm just worried people will get mad at her or something in event she doesn't make a perfect Olympic landing. it makes me feel like hiding under a rock for fear of all the horrible angry discourse that will pop up around this. Rather than invite newbies in to give the series a chance and enjoy it. And even make crazy fun memes on it even if they don't fully get it but their hearts are in right place or something.

I have my fingers crossed for the Magician's Nephew but I would LOVE to see the Horse and His Boy. It would make my year tbh

11:35 (Bigger Bolder Guess) most likely producer fluff as you said. but if i were to take a guess as to what that means, I'd guess that means bigger sets, visual enviornments that the characters go through and explore around in. Possibly high production value as far as the details probably like The Last Airbender series which, yes I know is super divisive with some utterly despising what they left out or didn't do as well, some thinking it was meh, and others that accept it as its own side thing and just want to sit out the flame wars and stuff. But that's besides the point. I just had to get that preamble out there first. It probably just means adding more production value and detail into it, and mostly just to have a general hype up partially for the fans and also for the investors or something. I'm not sure how the investing and film financing works for Netflix. Or even if that kind of thing even applies to them. That's just a top of my head guess on the boring side of filmmaking/TV making that randomly came into my head as a possibility. i probably might be totally wrong and off base on this.

> Doesn’t mention specific books Are we sure they are _going to do_ specific books, and not make extruded Narnia product _out of_ specific Narnia books? Because why, otherwise, is she so vague about it? Maybe to avoid fan pushback from one camp or the other? > bigger, bolder I think that argues for Narnia slurry (ie not book-by-book), the easier to fit whatever their ‘bigger, bolder’ world turns out to be.

Is there a way to combine both stories, especially Kirk's story line??

9:38 (other characters outside the Pevensey kids) I think that's why I liked Horse & His Boy, Magician's Nephew and The Silver Chair as far as installments. Mainly in the audiodrama version. One of the things that I was kind of disapointed with in the series was knowing where the rest of the humans that made up Narnia came from. I know that wasn't what Lewis wanted to focus on for his point, but I wanted to know. I know the Telmarines fell in through a reality tear on Earth back when there were pirates. didn't give a year or place, so I'll just take a guess and say sometime during The Golden Age of Piracy circa 1650s-1730s from a quick google search. And I know another large chunk were probably descendants of Queen Helen and King Frank from Earth sometime between 1837-1919. (again from a really lazy google search mostly going off the line of Sherlock Holmes still living on Barker Street as a rough range) I wonder where the Kalormens came from. Did they fall through a rip in reality from Earth as well? Also I sort of wanted to see the other universes in the other pools in the wood between the worlds. Mostly for window shopping and knowing what else was out there. With the main universes we see being Earth, Narnia and Charn. Do you think somebody could tackle a few of those other pools if they ever write a sequel book with Susan? I know Lewis put up that challenge for somebody to go for it since he wasn't able to figure out a how to get in touch with the wonder of Narnia/Christ and finding faith again as an older adult and stuff. I kind of recall Neil Gaiman doing something, but I'm not sure that one counts.

I’m interested in exploring more stories set in the works of Narnia, but I think it’s important that we at least see adaptations of the 7 books first!

@@andrewn6084 oh no, I get it and figured that's what'll get tackled. i was just wondering if there will ever be anyone that ever takes up Lewis' challenge on doing a Susan story by just waking up one morning and saying "Bet" to quote a phrase I think i sometimes used in Gen Z slang as "yup" and blowing us all out the water with it or something. 🤷‍♂

I just hope Gerwig doesn't mess it up. There are rumors that Lucy will be the long lost daughter of the White Witch. I'm hoping Gerwig doesn't inject this with her Barbie agenda.

She would not be a daughter of Eve. so not a legitimate Queen of Narnia.
