The reason why it ended up so low, is because Iceland has no actual neighbours, and neighbourly voting is still strong at the Eurovision.

2012 was my first ESC ever and I can clearly remember casting my very first ever vote for the contest for this song. This was the beginning of a life-long love for the ESC. 2012 still remains un-topped music-wise IMO, and I still think of this song as the very best of that very year.

I don't really mind not getting high on the voting, although it's always nice to see the acknowledgement that it's a nice song, but what is left when the competition is over, and everyone has forgotten which place was which? What's left is people's memories of their favorites. New music shared and loved. That's what it's all about for me. I can't deny that it is fun though when your own country is voted for very high very often, like we got to experience with Selma 1999 and Jóhanna 2009. Most of my ESC favorites are from countries who didn't win, which isn't that strange since the majority didn't hehe. Winning for me is just an added honor and a way to select the next one who pays for hosting :P But I don't think about honor when I listen to the music, I just listen ;)

Incredible male and female vocals that blend with power and grace, solid violin work, and an unparallelled class to the performance that avoids the overt sexuality that is prevalent in so many other performances makes this song stand out. Plus, it is has a strong Icelandic feel to it the makes it a good national piece. Oh, and it is in English. :)

I believe in this song, this thing doesn't apply. I saw that year's Icelandic contest and I liked this song from the start. In Icelandic it sounded fascinating... I even learned to sing it in Icelandic. When they flip it in English I was so frustrated... the lyrics sounded more simplified... like it lacked the original magic and dynamics. I believe that if it "helps" the song that you can choose to keep the original lyrics. Iceland is well known for the amazing sagas and stories... this could have helped in this song. Another thing to consider is that it was presented on the final at the 7th place which was close to the start of the night if it was closer to the end (15th position or 17th.) I believe that the outcome would be different. And another one is the voices are placed too much "above" the music which is a mater of the delegation's director or sound technician
