Hi Mark, great playing and review. Gretsch should be paying you. I've bought one second hand last week. The owner put heavy 12s strings on that I couldn't bend with that short scale. Tuned them down a whole step like you done. Then changed to 10s. Love it. Thanks Mark.

Hi Mark, Great playing and channel. I have a Gin Rickey strung with Dadario Chrome 10 flatwounds which I like. Today I bought the new Jim Dandy Deltoluxe Concert model. The sound fit and finish is fantastic! Gretsch definitely upgraded these models. The neck on the concert is even more comfortable than my Gin Rickey and the tortishell binding is on both body and neck! I play them through a Fender Mustang LT 25 and love the sound of both aoustic and plugged in. If you can, try the concert model, I think you'll like it.🤓

Yes, I've seen those, they look great! I haven't had a chance to try one yet but look forward to checking them out! Are the necks fatter? Thanks for the info

@@markmumea Hi Mark, I believe that the neck thickness is the same as the original Jim Dandy/Rickey parlors, for all the new Jim Dandy's the only exceptions is that the Concert & Dreadnaught models have a 24-3/4" scale length.🙂

@@rcarey4176Yes! Both Gretsch Jim Dandy Dreadnought and Concert are 24¾" scale. The parlor is 24".

First of all, you play very well. I'm thinking about buying the new Gretsch Jim Dandy, not the Delta Blues version. In doubt very hard between Parlor or Dreadnough, because both seem to be great, but I can buy just one of them. I'm really sticking to the parlor, as it sounds so "roots" and blusy. But I'm a little afraid about the low strings not being enough for me in a band, or missing low end after installing a sound-hole pickup. I play in group with many variations of styles, and not so much blues. This situation is pushing me to the dreadnought model, as it is more general stylish. Also, the rex-burst finishing looks amazing, but again, a little afraid with the basswood not sounding or lasting very well in comparison with the sapelle one. Maybe I go with the Dreadnought Sapelle version.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the review. Do you have a favourite set of strings for this guitar?
@markmumea6 ай бұрын
Hey Jon, I usually use flat wound 12's, with a non-wound G swapped out, but on the Gin Rickey, I went with D'Addario half rounds, first time using them, I like them fine.

Honestly for that price you can't go wrong, I could use an acoustic to mess around on so that might be worth looking into. You don't find the 3/4 scale too cramped as a grown man?
@markmumea11 ай бұрын
I prefer a 3/4 scale, nice and compact, it's a bit tight higher up the neck at times, especially while playing with a capo in G for example but a good tradeoff for me most of the time. However, I do have pretty thin hands and fingers. I had a Gibson ES140 for a long time that was also a 3/4 scale so it's familiar to me. Check FB Marketplace for the Gin Rickey, I see them for $185-$200 with a case on occasion.

Mark, what gauge strings do you use for this guitar?
@markmumeaАй бұрын
For this video, I believe I had a set of flatwound 12's on there, and tuned down a whole step to D. Since then, I have switched to a set of 11-50 flatwounds. I like both, although I seem to have a bit more endurance playing on the flats, and a bit warmer sound playing in standard tuning.

If that had a 1 3/4" wide nut and a fat neck profile i would try one as a backup. This skinny, narrow neck - not for me. The pickup sounds good though.

Yeah, the thin neck was shocking at first, and the bridge/the way the strings go into it are funky...Those would be about my only gripes. The neck felt very thin initially compared to the necks I was used to playing on my vintage guitars; however, after having played this for some time, it now feels pretty balanced for the 3/4 scale and light weight of the guitar, and the neck doesn't bother me - although I'd still prefer it to be fatter and a floating bridge. Small sacrifices for me vs the positives.

open D or standard D?

Standard D, everything tuned down 2 frets/whole step
