Love Renowns. Finally, after almost 10 years of wanting a kit of them, I'm happy to say I can finally own ones. I had a little problems with the 16" floor tom as well, it was a little bit out of round when I first took it out of the box. It's something to do with the way the floor toms are supported inside the factory packaging, only one side is reinforced against the inside of the bass drum shell where it's nested. So that side is always a bit more oval than the other. It fixed itself after having them tuned up for a longer amount of time, but right out of the box it took a little convincing and some moongel to nail down.

Bummer about that Floor Tom! I tweaked my tuning a bit after this video was made and now it sounds amazing! Glad to hear yours worked itself out.

Have both a Renown and Brooklyn kit. Can't go wrong with the Renown. Definitely a workhorse kit for any genre of music. Gretsch hit a home run with it especially at the price point. Best kit for.the buck.

Awesome! I was between the Brooklyn and the Renown. I felt that the Brooklyn was so expensive that I wouldn’t want to take it out on most gigs. I’m super pleased with how the renown has been performing! Thanks for watching!
@ramencurry667210 ай бұрын
I think one reason why the Renown sounds great is because music instrument factories in Asia run a tight ship. In my opinion music instruments costing over around $700 or so retail made in Asia is going to be high quality and comparable to USA made products over $1000 or more
@fuzzylogiceire5 ай бұрын
It's a pity that inflation has pushed them out of that more affordable price range. The 4pc sets now go for more than 2k dollars when they used to be around 1600 or less.

I have the Renown RN2 fusion with 20” bass drum, beautiful kit, very versatile. I use my New Classic live mostly, no specific reason, it’s just how it’s worked out. Both great Gretsch kits. Easy to tune, sound good both live and in the studio.

I have gretsch brooklyn chrome over steel snare 14x6.5. I bought it brand new and I was surprised that the tension rods were not lubricated. Gretsch sends a note with the brooklyn snares at least where it sais remember to lubricate all metal parts that need lubricantion or something on those lines.

I've got a 24, 13, 16, 18 configuration RN2 in Satin Tobacco Burst and it's been my main kit the last few years. Recently decided to tune them on the tighter side of medium (I usually go low) and I fell in love with them all over again. It's the best they've ever sounded. I'm constantly surprised with the versatility these Renowns have to offer. Only thing I've ever regretted is that I didn't get a wrap. Those inlayed hoops are so classy looking! Congrats on the drums, man!
@daynnethedrummer684 Жыл бұрын
@@EchoBase-Music It does. Definitely requires a different tuning philosophy than a 22, but once you realize that and get it dialed, it's hard to go back. 🙂

I recently purchased me a set of the Gretsch Renown 2 drums, and they are my very first set of Gretch drums ever. I absolutely love these drums! I have a set up with an 8", 10", 12"toms, 16" & 18" Floor Toms, 22" kick drums, and a 14" X 8" Pork Pie Percussion USA Custom Patina Brass Snare Drum. I also purchased all SKB Hardshell cases for them all. I also purchased all new Cymbals as well. All Zildjian K Sweet series 12" & 14" Splash, 15" HiHats, 17" & 19" Crash's, 21" Ride, And an AMAZING 26" Meinl Cymbal Byzance Foundry Reserve R&D Concept Model Ride Cymbal. All new Drum Rack and Gibraltar Hardware. Gibraltar Double Kick Drum Pedal & 4 post Drum Throne. I also added all new Calfskin Drum Heads, and added tone rings. These Drums surpass all my expectations! They sound absolutely fantastic, and are very well made. I have been playing drums for over 40 years, and so far these are my favorite drums to date.

As I write this, I am trying to decide whether to go with the Gretsch Brooklyn or the Renown - Basically the Brooklyn is 1 grand more - What does that money get you? is it worth it ? What sound does one have that the other doesn't? A comparison video would be great - Thanks
@EchoBase-MusicАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! I was caught between the two kits for over a year. To the best of my knowledge here are the main differences: the Brooklyn shells are made in the USA and the Renowns are made overseas. You get way more customization options with the brooklyn (sizes, finishes, hardware, etc). Some people just need that gold gretsch badge (only on the brooklyn). In my case, those differences didn't justify the extra $1K. I'm super happy with my renown, but I can understand the allure of the higher end kits

Wow... great finish. I'm not a huge fan of the wraps but yours is a real beauty. I have a Renown kit. 8",10",12", 14" floor and 20" bass drum. The bass drum however does not have a hole in it. The finish is Cherry Burst. After a couple of years, I ended up ordering a 13" tom and 16" floor tom before they discontinued the Colour finish. This also gives me so many options. Great kit for the price. I love the hoops. I don't use the Renown snare though. I have others I can use. Sonor, Dunnett, etc. Congrats on your new drum set.

LOVE the Renown 2 series. I bought a 22, 10,12,14,16 over a year ago. Swapped the 22 for a vintage 20x14 (sounds MUCH better!), added an th2 13, and just bought an rn2 used 18 floor tom )waitong for delivery). These toms SING. Altetnating btwn a Gretsch Silver series 6.4x14 walnut snare, a 5x14 black nickel iver steel, and a Ludwig 5x14 Black Magic. For the price, I could not be mire pleased with the renown 2. I may havexw" milled off of the 22 kick depth though, because (I find the extra deep kikcks lack punch).

hey man great video! your love and passion for this instrument is really vibrant and evident in this video, makes me happy to see others enjoying this great thing called drums!\ I bought a new gretsch renown 24 13 16 a handful of months ago. It was a really nice kit. I ended up returning it though because i came across a 70s ludwig 24 14 18 for a great deal and i couldnt afford to keeo both, so i returned the renowns. sometimes I miss them though. just incredibly punchy and musical drums. I wish they came with coated heads though, bc especially on the bigger sizes i had the clear heads lack warmth.

There's a strange ringing on the small Tom Tom & the floor Tom that the middle Tom doesn't have. With the snare off it rings too but with it on it doesn't. That's my take on it.

They'd sell more of these if they'd shorten up the bass drum to 22x16. Great kit but I won't buy one due to the idiotic 18" depth.
