If the NHL had any brains they would have promoted the HELL out of Jaromír Jágr as the face of that league after 99 retired. Instead that Garage League and their sorry, non existent officiating led to Jarda’s potentially record shattering ‘99-‘00 season being trashed. Jaromír had the talent, charisma, personality and looks - he was literally TOO GOOD for the NHL. They didn’t deserve him and they didn’t appreciate him until the end of his career

@@jerryczech953 US born here - and 99% of the North American born players are dull as dirt. They’ve got about as much personality as a bowl of rice pudding. And it’s sad - Jaromír was the LAST reason I watched the NHL. Players like Crosby, McDavid, etc might rack up points, but NONE of them really impress me. Gretzky didn’t either. My response to him was like - he got X amount of points AND….? That’s nice. Mario Lemieux was the first player who really ROCKED MY SOCKS - and kept me glued to the TV. Ironically the NHL didn’t appreciate HIM either. I guess because HE was FRENCH Canadian. 🙄 I hope Jaromír’s own countrymen appreciate him and realize how much he matters to us. I’ve got family in Pittsburgh and we LOVE Jaromír and Mario. Mario has done so much for the city and Jaromír is like a beloved son to all of us. He’s the reason I did my best to try and learn some Czech 😁🇨🇿

@@siobhanofarrell4646 what did you learn ? PIVO ? ahoj ?🙂 Yep ,Jagr had and still have personality ,only minus on him is ,he is not married ,and dont have a kids .I heard in the local pub ( Iam about 15 miles from Kladno ) that he went through some health probpem while toddler ,and he cant have a kids ,thats why he is still playing. But its just roumour from one plumber who worked on Jagrs family farm .I loved Jarda Jagr ,I felt his fist two Stanley Cups ,Iam three years younger than him .Penguins had such a strong support in 90s in Czech Republic .I ve seen him play once for our national team ,it was great.I cant forget him scoring that goal to Devils in playoffs ,saving franchise in Pittsburgh...it was awsome I was alrrady in the US ,watching in local Des Moines,Iowa bar ..,drinking terrible budlight 🙂Jagr could be president next day here ,thats how he is popular, expecially his play for Team Czech ,two World titles, one Olympics.Best hockey player we ever had,,bigger than Hasek .Jags was pretty plesantly surprise with putting his jersey to the rafters in Pittsburgh ,he was impressed .He loved every moment.I wish I could be there ,but was not .btw ..Jagr still playing in Czech extraleague ,3rd line ....he is 52 years old...amazing hockey player 🙂

@@jerryczech953 I remember what you might consider odd things in English - ahoj, prosím, the months of the year - leden, únor, etc. And I have a soft spot in my heart for your composers of classical music - I love the Slavonic Dances. 🤗 I’ll never forget that game against New Jersey in ‘99. They weren’t just talking about sending the Penguins to Kansas City or Portland. There was talk that they were going to simply fold the team - kill it completely. From everything I’ve read, Jaromír is extremely intelligent. I think he knew what all was at stake. If I remember correctly, he was owed money due to deferred salary, but I think Jaromír understood very well what that scenario meant for Mario too. He was owed millions of dollars and his entire career and legacy was tied to the Pens. If the team was moved or folded he’d be left with nothing. Despite how badly he was injured (and I remember hearing announcers on TV saying that his groin injury was so bad that he had no business being on the ice) he came through for Mario and for the entire city of Pittsburgh. While Mario saved them off the ice Jaromír definitely saved the Penguins franchise ON the ice. I sincerely wish Jaromír knew how much he meant to people here. My mom passed away in 2011 and the last few months of her life - it was really bad. But Jaromír was still one of the few things that made her smile. They would post clips online of his games in Russia and I’d sit next to her on the bed with my laptop so she could watch him play. I sincerely hope that when he retires that the NHL will waive the 3 year waiting period and induct him into the Hall of Fame right away. I know his father has passed away, but his mom - all of the fans I know, we call her Mama Jágr and think she’s absolutely adorable - I want her to be able to witness that so much.

Still can’t believe Crawford didn’t use Gretzky on the shootout, but used a defenseman (Ray Bourque). Gretzky would have ripped a slap shot from in close to the top corner like he did a couple times on breakaways that year. No deke, straight to business.

@@jerryczech953 - Lindros was very young compared to Messier and Gretzky. He did not really embody the captaincy on that team. He didn’t have the poise. Another surprise was not using Steve Yzerman on the shootout. Gretzky & Yzerman were much better choices than a defenseman who is not used to breakaway situations, regardless how good a player he was.
