Damn, I remember this fondly. I feel like it had some great potential.

Love this factions designs. And it was nice change with human faction on highter technology level than aliens. Also for me, Grey Goo is one of the most interesting opponents in SF games. Simple in structure, yet can create advanced and specialized units. Have hight inteligence in form of easy replicated hive mind. Can consume everything but have no typical needs of live forms or advanced machines. The concept much more terrifying than zergs, terminids, tyranids, automatons, faro plauge... Necrons looks less aliens than that thing. Something similar appeared in "Invincible". It's a shame that they didn't have flying units in game.

A very unique RTS. I had hoped they have another game in this series.

*spoilers* I unironically love that Singleton totally gave off the vibe of being the AI companion that "got orders from headquarters" and turned out to be the one who released the menace this entire time (see almost every single robot from the _Alien_ franchise) but that in the end not only was Singleton not the one who released the Goo but was far and away the biggest bro on either side and the one who made the ultimate sacrifice to save everyone

This game was great but watching these cutscenes now I’m blown away by how good the face capture is. The human female looks like a real person from the eye movements to the facial expressions.

This is due to the expertise of Weta Workshop, who were responsible for the CGI of Lord of the Rings, King Kong etc.

Back then I hoped we’d get a C&C successor… and they made something good. They just didn’t make it to continue.

I felt like the biggest issue with the story is the classic trope of all the factions getting together to fight a common foe, and that foe being really boring and with a rushed ending where you basically never get to fight that enemy very much at all. I'd have preferred if they just kept to the three factions, and made them even more angry by the end of the game, keeping the faction war going even more intensely after first contact.
@cordar754727 күн бұрын
How would they do that, though? Unless the Earth got involved in a big way, all three factions have very low manpower. The human expedition was small enough before their ship was destroyed; the Beta have a small population that a single colony ship could carry because of their catastrophic war with the Silent Ones; and the Goo were similarly reduced to remnants for the same reason. It wouldn't have been much of a conflict, if even that.

its cliche but it makes sense. like what you want them to write factions to be actual brain dead cavemen who would rather all die then forget (at least temporarily) prejudice to fight a greater conflict? i mean we literally did it in real life with the ussr and america vs the Nazis
@s.m.252310 күн бұрын
I mean for that to work I feel the premice of the plot or factions should have been radically different because here a plot that could have solved by all three factions having a zoom call (okay so there were a few reason why it wasn't gonna happen but still my point is that the conflict is almsot entirely based on misunderstanding/lack of communication between the three faction rather than a real casus belli...) can only stretch hostilities for so long without either someone commiting some real atrocity along the way (wich deosn't fit at least the human or betas as they are caracerised here) to justify the hatred or the characters being *really* braindead, even by RTS standards...

This was fun to watch. I could easily see this like a new Mass Effect RPG IP.

Liked the game but the Conflict was dump, humans arrived and attack the lokal aliens for no reason. Later they work together against the goo,makes sense until the human Robot takes over and continues to attack them for no reason and refuses to explain his goal until the real enemy arrives in the dlc.

23:07 tough talk for someone who got beat by these "betas". Twice. Once when he had the element of surprise and another when he had one prisoner.

This game always felt like Avatar with AI goo thrown in the mix. As interesting the Goo was as a concept it was very boring to play them. Sadly this never figured out the biggest appeal to RTS games : A misterious/great enemy/vilain and cool units/buildings generating fun strategies. The main mistery gets spoiled instantly with no vilain to speak of until the the end. You can't have 2 good factions and one misunderstood faction fight eachother and make it feel good to beat them. I mean it could have worked if at the midway point we'd be fighting the silent ones but that never happens until the end. I mean atleast make the human faction evil right?

I think I and plenty of others have seen more than enough of humans being cast as the bad guys. It's about goddamn time we celebrated our virtues again, or we'll just flagellate ourselves to death. We've already seen many of our greatest achievements get pissed away in the name of being overly-critical of our worst tendencies and ignoring everything good we've ever made. We literally have people saying that we should never seek to emulate or exceed our greatest achievements in the name of some asinine complaints over not everyone yet living in a utopia. It's time for humans to allow ourselves to be exceptional again, for us to be HEROES again. I'm sick to death of having to whip myself because of the sins of the past - when is it ever enough to say that we've atoned for past mistakes?!

Could someone make aliens instead of humans with alien faces?
@Fingered2226 күн бұрын
The issue with what you're asking is that real theoretical aliens would be... Well, So alien that we literally couldn't replicate them into a comprehensible form with dialogue and all. Otherwise, I would agree.
@shadewolf007524 күн бұрын
@@Fingered22 well aliens capable of making a civilization similar to our own would logically share many similarities to us. They would need opposable thumbs and ability to make and use tools along with a clear method of communication with one another. Without those any intelligent alien life would basically be like dolphins and whales on earth. Smart but not able to make a advanced civilization
