Grey Gray Squirrel baby babies causing mischief and annoying Mum - Sciurus carolinensis

A family of Grey Squirrels emerged from the Oak Tree this year and entertained us. There are 4 young ones and mum. Here, she tries to grab a bite to eat but the little ones have other ideas.

Look at the beautiful family with fluffy tails. Mommy is so fat and fluffy, kids love to cuddle with her. They remind me of Beatrice Potter stories, if she saw them she must've composed a story about them. I bet their home is cozy and filled with a lot of food for winters.

What sucks is when the babies are older and independent, the will fight mom (And each other) for food if they have too. Ungrateful babies LOL. Squirrel dads are useless as they are basically "absentee" fathers and are only around to impregnate the female. Mom literally does all the work (Sometimes the father will help build the nest, but that is it.) and never gets an ounce of respect after all that rearing and hard work she's done. This mama should be thankful that her litter was only three!

I have a stump almost identical to this in my yard, and a very similar-looking squirrel. A family of eastern bluebirds were nesting there, and I was hoping to see the baby birds fledge. Fed and watered the songbirds all through the spring and summer and absolutely enjoyed watching them thrive through the breeding season. Unfortunately, the aforementioned massive squirrel came along and began harassing them every day. She was fat, aggressive, and obviously gravid or some shit. These fox squirrels are an invasive species where I live, and their population surged as the year progressed. They're tenacious and aggressive creatures, and a royal pain in the ass when they take over your entire yard. After watching her annoying antics I finally decided to scare her off whenever I saw her. After spewing a whole-ass lexicon of loud and obnoxious squirrel-noises at me, she'd scamper off for a short period of time. I came out one morning to find that fat rodent sitting on the bluebird roost and, to my horror, she was chewing apart the baby birds and discarding their mangled little bodies onto the ground below as the mother and father birds screamed plaintively, flying around in a desperate panic. Horrified, I ran inside my house, grabbed my air rifle, and returned to the bluebird roost. Tried the usual waving and yelling to scare the squirrel away, but instead of running off she turned to face me, tail whipping back and forth like a metronome on meth, and then she proceeded with this weird squirrel bark/screaming shitshow. As she continued to screech and glare at me (????) I got a bit closer. When I was about a meter away from the roost, the fat sow lunged at me suddenly, chattering her teeth as a warning that she'd jump on me and bite/attack me if I got any closer. Pissed off and extremely annoyed at this point, I took aim, pulled the trigger, and sent a round straight through her cheek, which lodged in her eye socket on the opposite side of her face. A couple seconds later she came tumbling off the bluebird roost and hit the pavement with an audible "thud". After flailing a bit she went completely still, finally dead as a doornail. I sincerely hope my bluebirds come back! I miss them, and feel horrible about the dead chicks. :(
