Discovery play can present the GM with a little extra heavy lifting, but Kane ran it like a champ, demonstrating how with a little forethought and prep, any gamemaster can make this intriguing style of play pay off for the whole table.

Oh…my…god! If I could thumb up this video multiple times I would smash that “like” button like crazy. What Kane pulled off here is simply out of this world! In this hectic world of ours getting players to the table is a real challenge. Session zero, character building etc. before the story actually begins. With discovery mode all these extra hoops to get to the table are evaporated. I can already see how this same method could be used at the beginning of the Last Flight of the Red Sword adventure. Characters waking up, looking at each other determining their life form, and building up their stats and gear step by step as they make their way to derelict cruiser… just awesome, so cinematic. Session zero literally built into the adventure. Kane my man, you’re doing an awesome job! You earned yourself a new Patrion subscriber.

Haha glad you enjoyed it! There is something to Discovery play that I would say hits the spot for certain games. Not a style I would always rely on, but it's good to have in the back pocket. Additionally, we did find that the Grey Hill Inferno trial was fun, but didn't always provide a slew of options the players could follow down different builds. It favored STR and DEX for example.
