When using the megadungeon mechanics for this encounter, if the nature and lethality level of the eye beams is not adequately communicated to the players by the time the party reaches this room, that failure is 100% on the GM, regardless of how the adventure has played out up to that point; merely quoting the box text about “countless dead bodies” does not cut it. The players should feel the full gravity of this lethal challenge and the pursuit pressure from the Invincibles, but they shouldn’t stumble unwittingly into a no-save deathtrap.
