One of the most mistreated character EVER!! Before watching s12, I tought she was a bad person seeing how much hate she got, but now that I'm watching it, she's always so kind, sweet but also pretty smart...she's only a bit hesitant, but even Jo and Steph, her only friends, turned their back for a REALLY SILLY reason!!! I hope, just for a bunch of ep, she'll return to have an happy ending as an accomplished neurosurgeon now that she's single!

I hate her because she went to a grieving wife and apologize and when rambling about how she is no a good doctor for the freaking wife's patient that she lost, and made MEREDITH confort HER. Like in the audio said, the patients grief it's the biggest thing in the room, and she made it about herself to a point Meredith had to give her a pep talk. That's when I hated her and it went downhill from there.

Personally, I didn’t hate Penny, and she didn’t deserve all the hate she got from us fans and the characters; she did not kill Derek but how was everyone supposed to know that? She did her best for Derek, she didn’t fight hard enough for him - as Derek said inside his head, she was a woman so her voice wasn’t listened to or the voice of reason when she was the only one saying that Derek needed a head CT. While Meredith was tough on her, if it wasn’t for Meredith, Penny wouldn’t have stepped up and changed for the better.

I get where Meredith was coming from but you definitely cannot blame Penny for Derek's death. Number one I think she was an intern not even a resident (could be wrong). Number two if it was Meredith she would have expected her interns or residents to do exactly what she said. Penny asked for the head ct multiple times and her attending said there wasn't time. In the episode with the hiker Peirce kept asking for an EKG and Meredith kept saying there wasn't time. She almost killed him so how is that any different from Penny?

It's not the fact that she killed Derek, because I don't feel like she did, not every resident will push like Cristina, Alex or Meredith to prove they are right, so that it's not the reason I hate her. I hate her because when Meredith went outside the hospital, and Penny was crying, instead of going inside and leaving a grieving wife alone, she not only made her listen to her apologize again, but then to start rambling about how she is not a good doctor and he deserved someone better, and basically forced meredith to make her feel better, telling about the one, telling her she will be a better doctor, and convince her to still be a doctor. She went to a grieving widow and made it about herself. Honestly, just leave the damn woman alone. And then she applied to the hospital that has HER NAME on it! And said that it was a big hospital so she didn't think they will see each other? One Google search and she would have realize that 1: Meredith owns part of the hospital, 2: that she was a surgical doctor and 3: that she was an attending. Like, how dumb can you be to think that you won't see an attending from a surgical program you want to enter? And then said that she wouldn't apply for that grand, then applied last minute, and put Callie and a difficult position with her child and Arizona. Although that I also blame Callie because who the hell moves across the country for a woman you been dating for less than a year? Disrupt your child's whole life so you can get laid? Take a child away from her mother? Not even ASKING the other parent if they are okay, just jumping the gun and not caring about other people? Anyway, I hated her the moment she did that to Meredith, and let's not forget that at the dinner party, after Meredith asked her to leave, instead of leaving, telling Meredith that she did not forget about her Derek. Like bitch, stop making you feel better about yourself. Get out. Don't come back, that woman doesn't need a constant reminder of how you couldn't convince an attending of a head CT for a patient could was bleeding in the head and COULD NOT TALK and how her husband died. And she didn't even get any great moment besides helping Meredith take the wires off her jaw. Besides the chemistry with the other actors were off and the script didn't help me like her, specially since they didn't give her room to grow and tried to make her perfect (perfect penny) and then the hole Callie mess. I just don't like her.

...do you think it was her fault as in she planned to do anything that befell her and the people around her? all of those encounters were beyond her control. Grey sloan memorial was the best teaching hospital in the country..it was all medical students dream to get taught in there. You are here complaining about the grant do you know why she applied later before the attendings meeting that night? It was because her only friends despised her 'coz she was from dillard..and for the fact she was trying to blame herself for derek's death it is because she is human she is trying to atone for her inefficient skills to save derek's promising to be better it's unfortunate her fate crossed with people who lack some basic human decency and ain't mature enough to understand her angle regardless of them being brilliant Doctors.

Believe it or not it's not easy for Doctor or nurses to lose their patients. Based on what I read from everyone in the comments it's not her fault that everything happened. It's hard for Doctor and Nurses to lose their to the point they get emotional about it. So her expressing that she'll wants to become better Doctor because of everything that had happened.

She didn’t. She pushed for the head ct that would have saved his life, but she was overruled by the other doctor who said it wasn’t as important as his internal bleeding. Meredith just needed someone to blame so penny got a lot of the blame, even though it wasn’t her fault at all

I feel like they didn’t hate Penny for that long. Sure, the times they hated her was extremely annoying but it only lasted for a couple of episodes but I do hate her with Callie and I am glad she left the show because she is a very unnecessary character.
