My father made roads like this in the Canadian Rocky Mountains before he retired. He called it "playing in the mountains". I think I'll show him this video tomorrow, from his hospital bed. He's 87 years old and this will bring back fond memories. Thank you!

used watch my grandfather build logging roads in the 70's and 80's as a kid in the Sykiyou Mountians in southern Oregon. He drove at the time either a D8H or a 8K with a winch and logging arch. this brings back so many memories and stories he told me. I am lucky I have a video of his old logging company pulling logs out in the 50's rand TD18's then and used mack and surplus 2.5 ton trucks as log trucks. good video and keep more coming.

haha same for me here in Maine. My grandfather build thousands of miles of logging roads around the state. He owned a CAT D11N, which was so massive that when i was young i was terrified of it. it shook the ground. i remember him taking me with him when building roads. He would destroy everything in it's path. massive trees, beaver dams, swamps, and when he ran into shale he would put the ripper down and it would rip entire hillsides apart. I miss those days so much.

In victoria Australia there is a network of roads and tracks created 150 years ago for bullock drays. The network covers all the remote mountainous regions and is often the basis for the modern road network, fire trails and walking trails. This network still exists and generally in very good condition using the lost bush art of building roads in remote areas. These doser drivers follow the same formula. At home they would always be looking for the remains of these tracks as a starting point.
