there is about 5mph difference between a lurcher & greyhound. lurchers can get to max speed (up to 40mph) in just 1.5 seconds, greyhounds take twice that time to get to max speed.

Agreed, neither of them was even close to fully extending. I have Greyhound/Collie/Saluki/Whippet mix, not built for outright speed, they're built to turn, without slowing down, it's insane to watch!

I have a bull lurcher and a greyhound, in terms of general speed, acceleration from standing and agility I've not seen an animal move as quick as the lurcher. Really difficult to tell which is fastest in a flat race but it's probably the greyhound. Just.

I am 78 year old and been hare coursing since I was 10 till they banned it and never seen a greyhound that could take a days coursing its not speed that catches hare its staying power and gile

My whippet/saluki lilly was unbelievable, she was only 21.5" at the withers but that put her into the max class at lure coursing, she would easily beat the other lurchers and wouldn't be suprised if she'd give a pure greyhound a good go too. Never seen a dog run faster than her. She would have made the UK Lure Coursing National Finals if she hadn't just slightly cut a corner in one of the semi's and was disqualified..

I have a bull lurcher and she's a pain in my ass but I love her to death! I've always sworn that she's literally the fastest dog ever- faster than greyhounds and certainly has more stamina than a greyhound. I love greyhounds too but they're much more delicate and prone to injury than a lurcher

Not necessarily. Lurchers are typically bred with working dogs for more stamina (and other things).

They are both longdogs not lurcher or greyhound going by what you claim them to be. Lurcher is a sighthound breeds x non sighthound breed. Longdogs are sighthound x sighthound. And Skyline look like a bull lurcher = sighthound x SBT. You don't even know what your dogs are properly called, bad form.

If you cross a greyhound with any breed of dog that is slower than a greyhound which is all breeds then it has to be slower than a pure greyhound and they are.

Yes but they're stronger and have more heart. That's why people breed bull into greyhounds. Lurchers are hunting dogs. They're still fast enough to catch rabbits hares and foxes but strong enough and have the mindset thanks to the bull in them

they are 2 lurchers, the whippet x hound would be faster because the whippet where as the saluki is slower breed but would hold her speed alot longer and normally takes alot longer to pick up speed but the whippet has early pace, the saluki x hound doesnt look like she is giving it her all as you can see she is not putting in a full stride like the whippet x hound is it is more then likely because she knows it is just a fun run and not to get a kill, the whippet x hound has a nice bit of speed doe, lovely dogs best of luck with them

I've met several greyhound owners on walks that usually persist to tell me their dog is faster like it's some kind of contest, only to find out my Lurcher is outrunning there Greyhound. IT DEPENDS WHAT THEY'RE MIXED WITH. A Lurcher is not a Lurcher is not a Lurcher.
