This was the song they put out as a tribute to their drummer the Rev. It was so sad when he died, and this song is such a touching memorial for him. But it does really just touch the heart when thinking of anyone whom you have lost. It helps the grief, I think. Gives it an outlet.

8:50 Imagine being the band and writing it about your friend/drummer, and then going out and playing it live night after night. I remember they did their song Fiction (written by The Rev) at a show in 2014 Fairly Shortly after The Rev had died, and Matt had to stop singing and cry, because the "REV!" chants were so loud he couldn't keep it together, it was a beautiful moment one I'll never forget as long as I live.

I always thought this song was written about The Rev too, but turns out Syn wrote this song about his grandpa before they lost Rev. But the band as a whole decided to use the song as a tribute to him. I saw them on the Nightmare tour right after they lost him, in 2010. They did this song and their whole show that night was a tribute. They had the big banner with that final photo hanging behind them. It was a great show, but the whole thing had a sad undertone to it. It was my first time seeing them. I wish I had found them sooner.

This is the strength of Metal. It is generally about getting an emotion out of yourself and sitting in it, rather than letting it fester. It's why a lot of the themes are dark, because they are usually the ones that need to come out. It can be a good way to understand and reframe the feelings. It does mean that you end up with songs that you can only listen to sparingly. I think if you ask most Metalheads/Rockers, they all have that one song up their sleeve that they will only break out once or twice a year when they need a good emotional purge. They will probably also have one or two that they are glad they heard, but will never listen to again. I hope that this was more a release than it was trauma, but thanks for sharing it regardless.

Great one once again Teddy! The song is for their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan who passed away from an accidental overdose while they were still recording/producing this record(Nightmare). It was sudden and devastating, he was only 28. You should check out Fiction from that record as well. It was the last song The Rev wrote for that record before his death(he turned it in within weeks before actually). That song is like his premonition of his own death. Like he knew he didn't have much time left. Since he was young he always told everyone that he'd die before the age of 30. Eery as fuck but it's a great song. He had recorded it on piano with his vocals the week before his death and their singer M. Shadows just added his vocals after his death to finish it. Turned it into an amazing duet. Haunting but beautiful.

This song came out around that time and he absolutely loved this album from start to finish (buried alive being his favorite song of all time). I’d like to think this song and buried alive helped save him and I’m so thankful to still have him in my life after almost losing him. I have lost so many people recently and this song helps me to get through it. Hearing it live brings me to tears every time. (RIP The Rev 🤘🏻)

If you’ve experienced loss, you know this song will hurt in ways you didn’t expect it to. I sang my heart out to this song in two concerts: one several years ago, and one this past year. The first one I was just blissfully singing along to a rare acoustic song by A7X. The second was after my aunt lost her battle with cancer, and I was sobbing my way through each word. I was crying at the first guitar strum. But idk it reminds me how much I miss her and still love her, and how there’s still so much to say but she’s so far away. Sending hugs and tissues ❤

you have to understand that’s entirely subjective though… for me personally, this song was depressing as it brought forward memories of people I can no longer just pick up the phone and call anymore. I’ve had my best friend and many family members die fairly recently. What friends haven’t died, I’ve become distanced from due to my move across the country. There is an epidemic of loneliness and mortal panic amongst young men in this generation and you are not alone. It may be mostly white young men in your country but in the US it is far wider-reaching. People are becoming disenfranchised, aware of how little they matter in the scheme of things. I don’t know how to fix it but I do know that constant access to social media isn’t helping anyone.
