I think it still would've happened. So Grian would've installed Mumbo as Mayor without the candidate even knowing he was signed up to begin with, only to then undermine Mumbo at every turn. It's just truly diabolical what could have been.

In retrospect, they probably let mumbo lose because there was public pressure to invite James Charles in Hermitcraft if he won... James kinda coerced them into a collab by giving mumbo and xsuma a "shoutout"
